Are line drivers necessary? My HU only has 2v preouts (it was free, cant complain for now) I do plan on eventually purchasing a better headunit but for now this is what I got. My question is do I NEED a line driver or will I be ok for now?

Also what exactly does a line driver do lol? I was just told by someone awhile ago that I would need one...

BY THE the time u get the two volts to the output threw signal cables threw amp u have quite a bit less than 2v which is barely enough for most amps 4 volt minimum line driver and combo eq cost like 70 bucks and they r worth it..

Just get a better headunit w/4-8v preouts rather than introducing a new piece of equipment into the signal chain.

in past experiences any line driver under 150 dollars simply created a beautiful little engine whine. tried from a 60 dollar scoshe to a 150 dollar pg line driver. even an audiocontrol. all had the same issue. no it was not a ground loop issue lol.

I've only used TRU SSLDi (waaaay over $150 lol) never had a single issue. Actually loooved it and still do. Changed some gear and now i have 8V out from my xover/eq so TRU is in storage mode for now. Still thou, def a cool damn thing to have in your system.

K well I hope to upgrade HU within the month so I think I will be ok. Thanks for all the responses. One more random question though. What gauge speaker wire do yall use? Im wiring up a OA15 if that makes a difference.

Just thought I would throw this out there. I have an eclipse model 21010. It has 3 10v RMS outputs. Very nice subwoofer controls, and 5 band eq. as well has hp/lp filters. For its age, it is in very nice condition, and 10/10 mechanically. PM me if your interested and I can get you pics and a price.
