Ok guys I need some advise as to doing a competition box for my 15" MT. The only way I think i can get the box into the car would be in a way that the sub has to be facing up. What I am looking at for this box is to be around 3.5cuft with external aeros tuned to around 38-40hz. The reason i want to do external aeros is because i have a pretty neat idea for the amp rack to go ontop of the aeros but not reasting on them if you understand what im trying to say.

So what I need help with is basically designing the box I have never designed one before. I am using sketchup and i dont really know how to do exteral ports with it. I'm gussing it has to do with the pull/push tool just dont knwo how lol

Also what size aeros? I will be using PVC and I have access to a heat gun to flare the ports.

One more thing depending on how long the aeros need would there be any way to make the box so that the box with sub is one part and then the aero port part would be abother part and hook them up in the trunk??

Disscuss. Any and all input is very much appreciated.

Giving your maximum dimensions would help.

thats not a competition box though thats a daily box
but any way use 6"
all you have to do is make 2 circles in sketchup and pull the middle of the 2
and you could make the end panel removable and use weather stripping and t-nuts

Well the box that I have in there now is (external) 23" L x 32" W x 14" H. That box was a royal pain in the ASS to put in so I dont plan on making any of the dimensions of the new box anywhere close to those.

So what do you plan on making the dimensions?

I'm trying to figure that out now. I wasn't sure if the whole removable port thing would work but i guess it will now. I guess i could also use that make make a daily port that way too. Idk Ill have to play with the numbers. Also do do the flares of the ports need to go into consideration when trying to figure out tuning?

unless your talking like bass race or something a comp box would be small and tuned high

I was just going by the numbers MR. MT was saying. What exactly would you propose? Like I said I've never done this before lol so ill take all input into consideration.

spl comp boxes don't they only play one note I'm just trying to figure out exactly what you want so you build the right thing it sounds like you want a daily box so what you listed is about right

Ok what is is you would to do with this set up? That is the big? If you are going to use this set up for a daily then i would not us a mt b/c there is no cooling on them. But you can with the right box set up you just have to make sure it dose not get to hot.

I have been using the MT for daily for the past few months on an IA 40.1 Its gotten warm but never hot.

I would do 4.5cu and about 350 to 400 sqin of port then start to test and make it smaller and see where it likes it the most. any one can tell you to make a box at one size start big and work down it the number gose down at on test of making it smaller then make it bigger. And remember to check your reavtive and your power. that is when you know the box is where you need it.So if you start seeing the same score and the power droping then that is good. Just b/c you have 3600 dose not mean you need it

mt's have very good cooling just no pole vent
the box is fine for daily

But the mt dose not even have a cooling hole or vent and the gap is small. I am not cutting the mt down it is a good sub.

the basket has the cooling at the top the reason it has a small gap and no pole vent is to keep the motor as strong as possible

Right i know that. That is wy that are a good sub. but i guess there is some cooling there

the movement of the spider creates suction and force causing air to be pushed and pulled around the coil the opposite way the coil is moving

Bump.....

Anyone else got any input?

Also I asked SPY about where the best place for the aeros should go he said as far away from the sub as possible, anyone else got any ideas?
