Is this similar to the one you have fs on ssa?

Wow that is nice, a little price prohibitive for me, very interseting driver though.

Small thread jack. Jacob, how are the msrp prices figured? I've allways wondered that.

Maybe, we'll see :)
I guess I should inform our friend DS-21 on DIYMA that this one does have some aluminum in it, huh ? ;) ;)

Based on a % over dealer cost.

Two of these should be pretty brutal on an SAE-1200D for a daily system!

Ahh. Might have to look into one when they come out. Try it in a folded horn off the 3k. :D at 4ohm of course.

If this is price competitive with the DC Level 3 and comes in an 18 and is out when im ready to everything then this will yet another option ill have to think about when i start buying.
Nice looking sub though. If you need testers message me up.

I don't know what a LVL-3 costs to be honest.
And I am not making 18s in these - motor is simply not strong enough, IMO. Perhaps at a later date if I made a second motor design for the 18" specifically, maybe... but that would be a while.

eh, i might be happy with a 15".

So now that you have pretty much a full lineup of woofers, when are you going to update your "about us" on your website? No need to say buy a sundown amp and pair it with a SI woofer. ???

The modifications to the design are working great - anxious to get these out to the public. Will update once I get an ETA.

Nice looking sub, for some reason I have always liked that basket (Not sure of the actual name) & seems to be priced in a nice range...

Threw the pair of prototypes in my Jeep and hit 149.7 dB :)
Box is made for 15s with way too much port area but they still did quite well!
Derrick is here and has a picture on his phone... trying to get it to upload!

Hey Jacob this isn't the same model you sent to Peter is it? It looks different but I can't figure out what model you sent him...

His is a one-of prototype that is not like anything we will likely be making... it was a candidate for the SA line, though.

I was pleased with the results :)
I think they would do better in a bit smaller with less port area. I also realized that I forgot to move my seats into the optimum metering position... and my adapter plates are only screwed to the top layer and not sealed off with any foam, tape, etc.
So I bet I could squeeze a 150 out of it.

Some more testing this morning... 148.9 with single prototype amplifier @ 1 ohm nominal load:

Yesterday I still had my 4x 3000Ds in so I had a bit more power on tap to squeeze the extra SPL to hit 149.7 dB.

what amp is that. i hate to say it, but i think it looks ugly compaired to the other style.
what other type of testing will you do here with these woofers since they are going to be marketed more with the SQ goal in mind?
sundownz
03-10-2009, 11:42 AM
It is a prototype in a generic casing for testing - the board is wider so won't fit in our current casing.
I am sure once people get them they will share about how they sound :)

When are you gonna come out with more SQ woofers?
sundownz
04-01-2009, 10:49 AM
I think that many people will be pretty darn happy with this as an SQ sub :) I didn't set out to design a dedicated SQ driver but it does have a large linear x-max, great low-end extension, and an aluminum shorting ring for reduced inductive distortion so it is no slouch.
For me to call it a dedicated SQ sub I'd use a linear motor topology, which this driver does not have. Other than that it has the makings of a great sounding driver.

Since I know your a SQ guy at heart Ill take you word on this being a great sounding sub.
Thanks

I'll try to get some SQ based reviews of it when it comes in :)
Stuckinok

Ill be watching for it..
but I still think you should do a short run of SQ woofers lol

you've done that one pure SQ woofer prototype you sold some time ago
what was wrong with it for a limited run?
