Default NicholasK1993's Budget Build

Right now everything is going into a 1999 Toyota Corolla but I'm hopefully getting a VW Golf by January...

Started off with some cheapo Dual 12"s in a prefab "band pass" box and a matching Dual 460w amp that my brother for for $40.

That was enough to get me addicted to bass so I then built my own box for them 3Ft3 tuned to 36Hz and it was much louder.

Next I picked up a Powerbass ASA 1100.5 and some Powerbass 6.5" coaxials for the doors and deck. They sound much better then stock and get a helluva lot louder before getting distorted.

While trying to set my gain with a DMM I checked the voltage at the amp while playing music and it was dipping into the mid twelves on just 300w and ~45w a speaker...

Got an Optima Yellow Top from Advance Auto for $140 with a coupon code which now keeps my voltage in the low fourteens to high thirteens.

Then preordered a Skar VVX 15" and built a box for it that had a "different" port design which ended up being horrible so I had DonH design me one sub up port back 3Ft3 tuned to 30Hz. While building it made the port about 2 inches shorter on accident so it's probably tuned around 32Hz or so now...

The VVX 15" just want getting enough power from the ASA 1100.5 so I sold it a few days ago and ordered a MB Quart Onyx 1500.1 from SonixElectronics for $140 on a Black Friday sale. Was going to get an Audiopipe APSM 1300 but felt it would be worth the extra $31 for the MB Quart since I have to run at 2 ohms and it's a higher quality brand from what I've heard.

Now I'm waiting for the Onyx 1500.1 to come in some time this week and I also need to rewire my speakers to the head unit for power. Also going to order the KNU 1/0 KCA amp kit since the Scorche 6ga. wire I have now isn't going to cut it for 1000w...

Very nice so far. You seem be keeping with the moving up in quality system. You will definatly want to pick up a nice 2 or 4 channel when you get a chance. With some decent power going to that 15 your decks not gonna have the power to keep up. I would recomend a good 2 channel and just wire the front/rear right speakers to one channel and the front/rear left speakers to the other. If you stick with the ONXY line from MB you should be able to pick one up for $75 or so. Good luck and keep us posted on your build.

I'll probably do that I don't know anything about cars mechanically expect you need to check the oil often and where the battery and alternator are located.

By chance do you know if it would be possible to mount a second alternator in a Golf? If possible I would want to get a second HO Alt and have it solely for the audio and keep the stock alt for the other electrical.

Pricing out speaker wire from KNU and it's not much more to get 8ga. wiring in OFC or CCA. I know I don't need 8ga. but why not get over kill plus they sell ring terminals for it vs spade which would make wiring the sub using the bolts through the box method cleaner and more secure.

Would it be too risky to try and bore the output(s) on the Onyx 1500.1 to accept 8ga. wiring or just trim some of the wire to make it fit?

There is no way ur mounting a 2nd alt... There is barely enough room for the h/o alt..

As far as the amp wire, personally I would just run 0 gauge to a distro block, and run a small run to amp that way it's not to long of small wire, I did that with my 4 channel
