Default db's new years eve build!

Ok I cheated a little. I started a couple nights ago getting the pieces cut. I glued the main panels together and clamped it up.

Now getting to the details.

I'm using a 6" aero from derrick. I routed out the panel to flush mount it. I wasn't happy how there was a huge hole on the backside and nothing but the small flange to seal up. So I made a second panel and routed it the size of the tube.

How it looks on the backside

Jumped ahead of myself.

I suppose I should back up and tell what I'm building.

I got a good deal on a proto from Jacob to replace my sa-8. This box is being built out of 13 ply birch. It's my first build on birch outside of a tv stand I made a while back. It's for sure a lot less messy and lighter weight. I had to buy a new blade for my table saw as the 36T just chewed it up. I'm now using a 80T and works much better.

The specs are 1.85 cft3 after displacements and tuned at 31hz. I designed it to fit in a narrow space which is why it is long and shallow.

Working on the rest of the bracing and fitting the port now.

Got the port mounted. I wasn't crazy about the green so I sprayed it with 5 coats of hammered black. Turned out pretty well I think.

Bracing is put in as well. I used it as double duty to help support the port. It was a little tricky to get them mounted at the exact height I wanted. It had to support the port but too high and it pushed it out and too low it didn't do anything. So I set them in place and traced them with a sharpie. Then used a small nail and then used a small hammer to tap it from the inside out to mark the hole. Worked pretty well.

Here it is with the port installed. I used heavy duty pvc primer and cement, then double wrap of hvac tape. I wanted to be sure it was sealed and secure. Would be next to impossible to repair once it was all together.

More to come.

Took it for a test ride last night and very impressed. I still need to tweak my ssf and gain since it was set for the sa8.

May have some videos to share later.
