Default 150 dbs on 4 10" sony xplod 45$ subs and 2400 watts!!

Hey guys, i bring to you this little project on wich we worked for a couple of days from scrap, the car itīs a CRX HF 89, please, i know according to lots of people that the crx "can fart a 150 dbs" , sometimes itīs not funny at all that comment since you have to work hard like any other car, yes the car helps a lot if you know what you are doing, BUT, itīs first time that we try a crx and sony xplod subs also, hope you guys like it

Details:
1989 CRX HF
Subs: 4 Sony xplod 10" 45$ subs, they are 450 watttttsssss
Amplifier: Single Digital Designs M3a
battery: Single XS Power D3400 on front
Wire: 4 runs of 1/0 cheap Soundquest gauge lol
Box: 4.2 cubic feet and 2 6" aeroports

Iīm gonna post as much as i can since i went on a cruise around the caribbean in the middle of the build so i donīt have as many pics as i want, in the meantime, i can tell you this, the car has 0 work on it, and also, the box has 0 work on it, the goal was to score a 148 using 4 sony xplod subs and below 2500 watts since Street C is limited at that power around here, enjoy...

The beggining:
Once again, we have NEVER tried a rex or sony xplod subs before, i donīt have pictures of the single sub box, but we built a 1.3 cubic feet box so we could shrink it until we found the best box size for a single sub in that car since we are gonna play around A LOT with sony xplod subs now hehe, at the end of that test, best we found was 1.05 cubic feet for a single 10" sub, of course, when you add another sub the box is totally different, but, we didnīt have any time since i was going to my trip only 2 days later, so we just decided to multiply that box size x2 and add another sub just to test out if it worked or not.

1000 watts subs yoooo!!!

2.1 cubic feet box, one sub forward, one sub up and port back

Trust me on this one, we tested a few port areas, single 6" , 2 4" and 3 4" ports until we found that, single 6" aero was perfect for that pair of subs

We retuned the port until we found that, 52 hz was perfect, all the testings were made with a single Digital Designs m1b wired @ 2 ohms, single small stinger battery on front and 2 runs of 1/0 , the funny thing is that, box didnīt have even glue on it and only a few screws so we could test everything easier, but anyways, score was promising

After only one full day of testing, we definitely went with the fastest and safe route , we multiplied that box size x2 for the 4 10" subs box divided on the middle so we didnīt have more problems that we already had by using such a big box since we didnīt have any more time to test anything, I KNOW itīs no way near to be the best box design that i can get, but we were on a rush, so bare with me

So , the next day, we started on the 4 subs box , 1" MDF and 4.2 cubic feet with 2 subs forward, 2 subs up and 2 6" aeros back

We ran out of 1" MDF, so we had to seperate the chambers with a 3/4" MDF lol

We went with this kind of configuration since we also tried subs forward and to the sides but the car didnīt like the flex that much and we didnīt have ANY time to test some sexy ass dynamat lol

Box was starting to look loud

[IMG][/IMG]

View thru the front sub

Thru the port

Below the box, you can see the single sub box we tried lol

Xploddddeeee !!

We ran out of daylight and the neighboors were gonna complain if we burped the car at night, that night i barely sleeped thinking about the score we needed to get, our goal was to burp a 146 using the DD m1b and the shitty electrical we had, if we got it, i was pretty sure we could burp a 148 with 45$ subs and using a single 2500 watts amplifier like we wanted.

So, the next day, we got the box inside the rex, fingers crossed

BOOM!!!!

After finding the sweet spot of the box:

Panamenian record was 148.3 dbs using Soundstream subs and a 2500 watts amplifier, that car had a couple of years of testing already, we only had a few days, the next day we finished the box i went to my cruise and my best buddy Raul finished the job, changed the battery, applied some resin, painted the box on the beautification process, installed 2 more 1/0 runs, changed the DD m1b for a DD m3a wich was below the power limitation on the class, box ended up looking like this:

Digital Designs M3a and 4 runs of cheap 1/0 Soundquest wire lol

I arrived from the cruise a few hours before the show, hereīs your sexy latin CACO member fecupe2001 drunk as hell

And on this picture, you have Raul whoīs the one that built almost the entire car (i only helped him with the box) , the owner of the car, a buddyīs girlfriend and another competitor inside the car with me fooling around lol

And now, the fun part, the results!!! Enjoy the video

A few more pics from the show

As you can see, 0 work on the car

Certified panamenian record, this is a picture of the second round, still waiting for a vid of it

Of course, trunk open thru all the show so people could watch all the equipment, no secrets at all on this car, thatīs why you saw that big of reaction on the video, everyone knew the car had sony xplod subs and were expecting a 142 dbs lol

Sony xplod and Digital Designs dealerīs owner, my good buddy Jorge, he was a GREAT support on the project, the guy even worked on the car a little bit hehe, this project wouldnīt exist if it wasnīt for him, so big props for an awesome guy who wants to make sony xplod famous lol

Carīs owner happier than ever, heīs the one spending all the money

Trust me, thatīs me demoing the CRX, we didnīt have the sony xplod 4 channel amplifier wired it, so i was just burping the car lol

Part of the Sony Xplod and Digital Designs family

Thanks a lot man, glad you like it! Well , itīs a burping car, BUT, carīs owner LOVE rock, pop, dance music, latin music and all those kind of high frequencies lol, so itīs cool i guess, we havenīt tried it that much on music actually since itīs not his daily car, but the car plays very flat from 50 to around 65 hz lol, yes i know itīs a high peak, but for a burping car it plays very nice on the kind of music he likes, pretty sure it can go down to around 45 hz without any problems, itīs weird since itīs supposed to be a burp boxbut i guess itīs because of the box size.

About the ports, they are 8.5" long, that should give us around 52 hz tuning maybe; Iīm building a 4 Sony Xplod 15īs box for my explorer this weekend, should be fun hehe, iīm surely gonna post it over here

It looks like it's a burp machine only..

Tuned kinda high for regular music..At those power levels..I don't think the subs would last very long trying to play regular music..

I'm sure Fecupe chime in with more info..

thanks a lot bro!!

And, you are right and wrong hehe, yes itīs tuned high for regular music that you guys like over there, over here, it plays very nice on the music latinos like hehe, specially on the ownerīs likes.

About the subs, we havenīt tried them that much on music yet, but they can surely take TONS of abuse on the burps, but yes you are right, donīt think they would like to be played at full tilt on a m3a, we have tried them on other applications though, and they can play very nice on music, we did a 144.5 @ 46 hz on a single DD m1b @ 1 ohm and 2 xplod 12īs

hehe thanks man, yeah i have that same feeling, we are shooting for a 151 on this same box, i know itīs no way near the best box you can build in a CRX but itīs cool, itīs a learning process, if we cant get a 151 on a DD m3a on a single battery and 45$ with a shitty design then i guess we are doing things right, as soon as we get to that goal, new box would be the next step, the whole point of this thing is to get as loud as we can until we are able to change the subs for some sexy DD 9510īs and 2 DD m4aīs
