Default Tight on space? Sundown SD-10 ftw.

My buddy came to me for advice on a little build he had. He works/worked at a local shop that carries and sells a lot of Kicker/Alpine/Fosgate. He said he only had 7" total max depth and 500w. I immediately thought of the Sundown SD.

After it went in on a little Kicker 500w, he said... "I will never use anything other than Sundown again."

Lol. I don't blame him. For a single 10 on 500w it is killing it.

Box is for a '96 Chevy full size single cab. 1.2 net @ 32hz with 12 sq in of port. All legrooom stayed intact.

I am thinking about doing the exact same thing in my moms truck (chevy 2500HD quad cab). Only thing is how close can the sub be to the back of the seat without worrying, or am I better off buying one of the prison bar style speaker grills off of PE and not worrying about it?

Edit: Double face for a single 10? seems a bit extreme.

Those speaker grills aren't great for high excursion subs. I've seen generic ones shred subs. The surround is only like an inch or so from the back of the seat and there isn't any problem. Unless you're worried about puncturing it or something. Or you could just fab up a custom one. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Yea I might make a nice fancy grill out of like horseshoes for her. Mothers day is coming up... Thanks for the quick build log tho, answered pretty much all of my questions about how I'm gonna do this.
