Default 2 18's walled/alero

update & new thread, im not doing 3 15" xcons in a 4th on a 3500 anymore.

i bought 2 dc level 3 18 m2's yesterday for a ported wall.

Someone recommended a shop ive never heard of, 15 minutes away, and i just got back. finally ive found a shop that knows how to do what i need. these guys know their stuff big time. they had some intense car show stuff going on and knew as much about boxes as me.

they can work within my budget of 650.

the owner recommended 1.5" thick MDF (yes - 1.5"!), saying 3/4 would flex hard.

my original idea is good and theyll use it (build box, put through door, built port in the car). it should come out to about 13.5 cubes. angled baffle. i couldnt be happier.

i also put a b stock RE xtx 5000.1 (2500W @ 1) on hold for a couple weeks.

all i need is .. $1000!

Birch is def better. And the advantages of it out weigh mdf in more ways then just weight.Worth the little extra cost.

And looking forward to the build.

How much more is birch? why 2 layers of 3/4, why not 1.5 birch? how would it compare to MDF Lite in weight?

by the way i live in canada and have never heard of menards.

Would the XTX 5000.1 be stable at .5 ohm with a 270a alt, couple batts, big 3, 0 gauge? i might do 4 level 3 18's @ .5 later on when i have a diff vehicle. he wants 350 for it. not bad considering id be paying more for a similiar 2k rated after shipping & border fees. i read mixed reviews about US amps, people say its over rated but will do 2k.

The baffle was going to originally be 1.5". Will 1.5" suffice or will 2 layers of 1.5" (3") be needed? I think it'd be over kill and 1.5 all around would be fine. a brace front to back and top to bottom.

i still have to put the car in my name and im waiting on an insurance quote. my mom said it'd be a hell of a lot more but i doubt it. if its too much than ill build in the trunk. apparently if noone can sit in the back seats than its considered a 2 seater. i disagreed.

they have some crazy builds!

this is my neighbours car, a seat pops out the trunk so you can sit & play video games. crazy stuff.

So... you started a build log to tell us that a shop is building you a wall?

personally the thicker the wood the better..id do 3" sub baffle and double layer everywhere else
any flexing of ANY baffle is baddd news..

hell the sub baffle for my single 12 is 4 layers of 3/4" 9ply birch
and rest is double layerd WITH fiberglass inside and all thread rod for braces

So, start a build log when you have pictures of the equipment and you building the port. It gets old seeing build logs that never have any progress or pictures inside.
