Default Next Woofer Build- PROJECT MMAG

My first "real sub" ... a Cerwin Vega stroker 152.. lost its fight against power around 2007...sad day when I accidently plugged it into the wall

So she's been sitting, sad and lonely... about a month ago I pulled the magnets off to give it a touch of unique. Then decide to put it up FS... hasn't sold sooo.... its getting build into a sq oriented woofer, low power around 700 to 1000 rms. The coil from a diff sub is being reused and the motors parameters will not be the same as stock (not in a bad way).
this magnet arrangement was not modeled, nor is its "perfect". It will suit its goals however and I see no issue in the outcome not being fully successful.

Here's what details I know;

-it will use a 15" 12 spoke basket
-single medium spider
-single lead
-a copper coil that's had 2 layers stripped, so its a 2 layer single 2 ohm
-terminals, no direct leads
- it will be a split gap
-motor will be custom built, 1 of a kind
- the motor has never been reused before, ever
-the dustcap will be plain jane to start
-motor will be custom painted
-basket will be custom painted

Parts list/ordered;

-cone
-spider with leads
-65 (yes 65) c8 ferrite magnet block for the bottom gap, not rings
-32 c8 ceramic disks for the top gap
-gasket
-terminals

Stay tuned

The recycled coil. Was originally a dual 2, 4 layer round copper

Its now a single 2, 2 layer

^what happens when you find a silver sharpie^

Now, although it may look "ugly" , its 100% functional and didn't cost me $45. If this was a TI basket build, id be worried about looks but you wont see any of the former unless you look through the cooling holes on the basket. Although, it will be cleaned up a little once the whole assembly is glued together.

Strips of heat shrink, just using it as an insulator

This is very similar to the technology/topology this subwoofer motor uses

the winding height matches top of motor to bottom of the lowest plate... no matter which way the coil goes, the winding are always in one of the gaps

The 12 spoke basket will be custom fitted for this motor .. to start, I've got to clean the bolt holes so I can make a mark though them onto the basket

place the plate on top, center and make sure its not to close to the basket factory holes

Sharpie wasn't long enough to reach the basket so creativity = activate

paint

Q tip

Mark through the top plate a nice paint dot

Drill the dots

check that its centered. Good
(Looks off center, but it is not)

Got a bunch of goodies in today

First up, top gap magnets

Next a few bottom gap magnets

To my amazement "ultra" let me order a spider with leads

Terminals... I like this kind and they we're cheaper

Still waiting on the cone and I have alot of work to do to start assembling the motor
