Default The Build before the Build

Thought I would share some pics of my subwoofer build, before I get started with my Blazer build...

So, about 6 months ago, I was cruisin the local craigslist ads when I saw an ad that I thought for sure was a typo... 12" Adire Audio Brahma, $20. Said it was blown, but still.... REALLY? So I contacted the seller, and it was true! Picked it up immediately!

It sat on my bench for a few months while I considered selling it or trying to find a match. No simple task, as I wasn't even sure which model motor I had. Narrowed it down to a MK1 motor and was lucky enough to have a match show up for sale over on CA.com! It was a working 12" so I had to pay up to get it, and I wasn't sure how I was going cut up a perfectly good sub of this caliber! USPS helped me that, lol, by making sure it wasn't working when it got to me... Broken basket.

Some pics of the 2 together, and the damage to the second...

So, I had 2 Brahma MK1 motors and was ready to build a pair of 15's!

Contacted Jacob at Sundown to see if he had any QC used, newly tooled baskets with the 10" spider landing. He was very helpful, as usual! Gave me great deal on a pair of used baskets. I don't mind cleaning them, as I plan to paint the baskets, so I would have hated to ruin 2 brand new ones scuffing and painting them anyways...

I bought the Sundown vented spacers, but after talking to Dave over at PSI (he built most of the original Brahmas BTW... very knowledgeable!) he suggested not using the spacers. Couldn't make the coils he had work with the XBL2 motor and the spacer. But he did suggest venting the basket! So I did...

Put some primer on one... Kinda like the white on the basket! But they will be Metalcast Blue when complete...

Dave at PSI and I talked about what would work and would be best for what I wanted. He built me a drop in recone... custom UNwound 3" 8 layer flat wound coils, Dual 1 ohm. Non pressed paper cone, high roll surround. Single medium 10" spider with hand sewn leads. Went with the dished CF dustcaps, for looks and weight. Should be long throwing, lightweight, low Fs... and sexy as hell!

Should be able to work on them more tomorrow, will continue to add pictures until they are complete! Then on to the Blazer to see how these bad boys get down!!!!

1 ohm after unwound. They were higher imp, higher RMS coils that Dave unwound. He said they would come out .75-1 ohm, they came in right at 1. He said they would be good for 1000-1200w RMS after unwound, which is right where I want to run them, SS Rubicon 2500.1 for the pair.
