Default BMW 335 2 10s Trunk Build

Well, decided to throw a system in the trunk of the Beemer.

Going to be 2 10s built from Audiobahn motors powered off a PPI S2000.1. If that doesn't give me enough power, I've got a Popcorn Sounds 6k ill use. Will be integrated into the OEM system using a custom wiring harness and Navone LOC. Electrical will be stock battery and 2 Kinetik HC600s to start. Depending on how that does, may upgrade the stock batt to a Kinetik HC2400 and add a couple more HC600s. All Power Cable is 1/0 Welding Wire and speaker wire is 8 gauge OFC.

The Car

Carboard mock up of the box to ensure fitment. Amp will go under a false floor and batts to the side of the box. Box will be 1.9cuft with 5" Aero tuned to 35 for daily and 40 for comps.

The subs I will be making. Thanks to Fedex, I get to rebuild them. Carbon Fiber Cones, DD 9500 Baskets, Dual stacked 7.5" Spiders, 3" 4layer/8layer coils (haven't gotten to measure the gap yet to see what will fit. FedEx really dragging their feet with the claim)

The Amp. PPI S2000.1D. Rated at 2krms @ 1ohm. Supposedly will run at .5ohm. We will see, couldn't find a lot of info on this amp. Worst case I run the 6k I have.

Electrical will be stock batt with 2 HC600s w/ 1/0 welding cable and 8 gauge speaker wire.

Hopefully box will be built this weekend and everything except subs will be installed. And when FedEx gets their act together, I will be able to tear the subs apart and rebuild.

The 3 series I have loves the lows. Should sound pretty good with those beefed up 10's on 2k!

Got a little done today. Been trying to get my new house together and it takes up more time then I thought.

My makeshift work station in my partially finished basement

Box done...sort of. Still got to do the sub and port cut outs and glass the interior/exterior and then carpet or paint or maybe a nice dark wood stain. Went with cabinet grade birch for the box.

Test fitting in the car. With the 2k

And with the 6k

Ive got enough space to barely get the 2k up on top the box but im not sure if i want to have it there. Wont have easy access and wont be able to isolate from vibration very easy.

Well both the sub parts, minus coils, and the subs themselves showed up today. Fedex will honor the claim and I will get my money back.

Picture of the new subs mocked up. Carbon Fiber Small Weave cone, either 2-3 stiff spiders and dual sewn leads on a DD basket. Got to cut out the cone from 2-3". Guess I accidentally ordered 2" Cones.

The Motor. Gap is 75mm to 85mm. Enough for a skinny 8layer or a fat 4layer

And the old sub torn out. You can see part of the basket still attached to the surround lol. Looks like a decent coil and some good softparts. Wish i got to play around with them a little bit.

Got the box stained and glassed and the subs mocked up. Still need to build the port for it.

Started building one of the 10s. D2 8 Layer Coil, Dual stiff linear spiders with dual sewn leads, small weave carbon fiber cone, and i will be making some custom dustcaps. Was snowing so i couldnt paint them.

Mocked up

Reinforcing all the glue joints and soldering leads to coil

Getting it all glued down

Finished product minus cap. Testing it out to make sure no rubbing. Wired down to 1ohm on a ppi s2k. Left the gain down and clamped 1500ish to the sub free airing. In the video, there were a lot of little nuts and bolts bouncing around making the noises.
