Default 1979 Chevy Malibu 454 - a Team Sundown Russia build

Hey guys, been a while since I really wrote much on what is happening in Russia.... We are all busy preparing to take back Alaska (now that we have Ukraine back where it should be again )

Anyhow, no hard feelings over that, right? In car-audio we are all one big family

So here's what we are building this year for shows and cruising. A 1979 Malibu I picked up last year

Car's been in Russia for quite a while, 10-15 years is my guess, previous owner swapped the 5.0 and auto for a 454 injected big-block (L29) out of a late 90s Suburban backed by a late-model T56 type manual out of a CTS-V ....he used a nasty 3-disk clutch setup which made the car pretty much unstreetable, so it sat for about 4 years outside until I bought it.... He also had it painted in the two-tone you see in the pics, but due to a bad prep job and general "save everywhere you can" approach the paint didn't last well after 4 years in the rain, snow and sun.... The pics hide the fact quite well, but it is horrible... Maybe ok from 30ft out if you squint and cross your eyes.

Anyhow, first thing was replacing the tired springs/shocks/bushing and doing the tall spindle swap upfront to get the B-body brakes on there - if you want to see some random pics of that - here's a link приводим в порядок подвеску после 4х лет простоя it's in Russian, but they do have an English version of the site which may or may not do auto-translate for ya

After that I tried to take it out for a spin.... Didn't go too well, as the clutch is pretty much an on/off affair and only likes to work on 3000rpm launches... Plus, the guys that had this before did something to the eaton posi unit in the stock 7.5 wuss-rearend and that thing was toast in under 5 miles... Plus we had some nasty vibration and what not from th flywheel, the starter was acting up and I generally did not feel safe in this (I have a 500hp+ pro-touring 68 Camaro with a 5speed which scares the shit out of most people, but this thing was just too much even for me, plus the fact that netiher I, nor anyone I know well assembled most of it....) .... I called it quits for that day

To remedy the situation, I found an automatic which I felt was better suited for the lowend grunt of the 454 truck motor... We got a used 4L60E .... That swap took the better part of the winter due to weather, lack of interest and chasing parts... We were hung up waiting for the shifter to come in for the longest time ever amongst other things.

Two days ago, we finally got it going though and my guys picked it up from the shop and drove it to theirs.... It didn't help that after 3 weeks of basically spring time weather, we suddenly got winter back with snow, sleet and ice all over the place...454+auto+summer tires+open dif ... Doesn't work well in snow

Here are some vids of the action

For those that would like the full deal on this car, here's a link to something like cardomain https://www.drive.net/cars/chevrolet...ration/skillz/

I'll try to be more focused on the car-audio aspect of this build further on

I'll also take this opportunity to plug my IG account here, as I do a lot of instant updates there www.Instagram.com/G_skillz81

We are going to put and airside system in it from S8 air. This weekend we should be back to spring with some arm weather, so stay tuned for some burnouts )))

I also have a Dakota digital dash coming in as well as a new steering wheel, should look nicer inside.... I am also looking at replacing the rear-end with a ford 9" made for a g-body... While I do have a 10-bolt housing here that I can build up, the price is looking to be the same as getting a complete unit from the US...that and a 10bolt will never be as strong as a 9" ford

Page of our shop doing the work http://vk.com/bear_sound - it's in Russian, plus I think you have to register on the social media platform this is on

Thanks! We will do our best

Season opener is less than 4 weeks away, we have to get cracking extra hard in this. Planning to at least strip the current paint and have it in primer for that extra bad-ass look

Not sure about rims yet though, not really liking these torq-thrust type rims on there.... Might try some BMW rims or maybe the set of steel SS 15's I have here from a 1970 Chevelle

Some contrast, eh?

I'm gonna see if I got any more pics, but I think we need to wait a few days until we get the H2 hummer we've been working on out of the shop as it's taking up all the space... Then we should have some nice tear-down action

Car audio wise, we want to make full use of that huge trunk an go with a couple of 12's, maybe 15's ... Either Sundown z v4 or X-series, pending what's available in stock here. Saz5000 or NS-1 and some XS power bats for juice. I know we're gonna go crazy on doors though - lot's of NeoPro's and pro audio tweets, maybe some 18sound mid-ranges

To any one - what do ya'll think about ebay rear-ends? This looks like a killer deal 9" inch Ford Complete Rearend Axle GM Chevy G Body 78 87 Cutlass Monte Carlo | eBay

I've dealt with companies like Moser, and while I think the world of their products, it's almost impossible to get a decent rear end from them under 3.5k it seems ...not wanting to got there with this ride
