Default T-Fade's ///M3

Been a minute since I did a legit build log. So... might as well.

Y'all probably know I swap vehicles quite often- so this is the latest. It's one of my bucket list cars. That list is pretty f'n long, but still.

My e46 M3. Right after I officially got my keys.

Next to the stablemate. One for SQ (and racecar) and one for SPL. Perfect.

Posted up at the gym.

Anyway... this is what I'm working with. 6.25" woofers in the door (Yeah. 6.25") and a mid/tweet near the door handle.

Woofer is mounted on the actual card. Which is dumb. And poses a lot of problems. not the least of which is depth. This isn't my actual door, but same deal minus the mid you can see there in the middle.

Aforementioned mid/tweet combo. It's a teeny little 2" mid and a .75" tweet. Stock photo.

Here's the "subs". It's a pair of anemic by'nines with their own little amp. IB through the rear deck.

After a few hundred dollars of ordering shit... I realized that this is the first time I've sat down and bought every single bit and piece to a system brand new. I'm usually reusing something or trading for shit or buying used. But I wanted to *try* to do this one nice.

So... first things first.

Sound Deadener Showdown. Only the good stuff. I'll be using it in conjunction with VibraFlex. But I wanted to keep weight down as best I could. Because... racecar.

And of course Ampere amps. Pair of 75.4 A/B goodness. One for each side. Stereo separation and shit, yo.

Bits and pieces...

I try to support my locals anytime that I can. So I usually buy all my install stuff locally. Went for T-Spec V12 RCA's cause they're kinda sexy. And I love this power and ground distro block. I just noticed this pic is upside down.

I recommend welding cable all the time. But in the interest of being matchy matchy in the car, I decided on KNU for all my wire.

Last piece of the puzzle. And I'm only showing the box for a reason (I'll get into that later). One thing I love about Madisound is that... there could be $1,000 worth of drivers in there or $100 worth of drivers in there. And either way, it would probably sound great.

How many drivers are you planning to run? Never heard of 2x 4 channels for fader/balance. Gonna use a DSP?

i saw the way the doors on bmw's from that gen are built and i almost puked.

just noticed the t-spec distro, do yourself a favor and turn it over and look at the back. specifically look for cracks between the screw caps where the blocks are held down. ive had one crack and fall apart on me and the top block would float inside the holder causing the mini anl fuses to break (they're pretty weak). i was able to get it replaced (t-spec/metra is actually local here in holly hill(daytona), fl) and glued the cracks and fuse blocks down on the replacement so its much more stable this time around

they come nice and pre cracked from the factory so its just a matter of time

All the processing duties will be handled by the 80prs.

Each pair of channels will be bridged.

I've used them before. I have a tendency to overtighten everything and I broke one. Little CA glue and a small piece of ABS between the power and ground to be safe I was good to go. But I'll check it. Thanks.

Let's get into it...

Stock bullshit. Well... I don't guess it's too bad. Had a changer in the trunk and an AUX input. That's probably plenty for most.

Bye bye...

Take particular notice of how GIGANTIC that stupid harness is.

Trunk destruction. What a mess. The changer, factory amp and about 4cf worth of other garbage was in the driver corner there. Will make a nice spot for the amps later.

Getting the doors off. No big deal right? Let me pause here to say... eff this mother effin goaddamn effin bolt.

I finally managed to wrestle them off. BMW obviously isn't too keen on you taking one of their cars apart. Deadener started.

Out with the stock garbage. Which, I discovered, was mismatched. AND the passenger woofer motor was broken off the basket. WTF?

I had it absolutely stuck in my head that I HAD to, under any circumstances, get the HU in and buttoned up before I could move on to anything else. And let me tell you... I've never been whooped by a car so bad in my life.

There is zero room in the dash. None. Zip. Zero. Nada. That big ass brick of a harness, (6) channels of RCA and a SWC module have nowhere to go. This is as close as I could get it.

Blood, sweat, tears, moonshine (made from the oranges from the trees in the pic in the OP) and a call to my good buddy e46inperrincounty later... I'm told that if I remove the AC vents above the radio, there is a void there to stuff all that crap. Well... I already tried that and that bish don't wanna come out. I'm given a replacement part guarantee by my boy so... it's coming out one way or another aaaaaaand.... shit.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!! I friggin HATE breaking shit. I mean... who does? But, but... M3! Anyway, such is life. I manage to stuff enough shit above the radio to get the thing close enough. TADA!!

P.S.- I hate you.

Running wires all tidy and what not.

With the doors deadened, Next project was the subs. As was mentioned, this is a pure SQ build. And I think a lot of you would be surprised just how little sub bass it takes to score well. To keep things clean, OEM looking and not take up the whole trunk with 500lbs of sub, I ordered these little monsters. Tang Band 6.5" subs. 35hz Fs, a decently favorable Q for IB and 11.5mm of linear throw! And not fer nuthin... but they're only 40 bucks each.

My original plan was to put them in the factory 6.5" spots in the rear deck. But... they didn't fit. So I had to back up and punt. I modified the factory sub baffle thingy to fit the TB's. I'm not 100% happy how it came out so I may revisit this later, but I'll at least give them a listen first. They may not be enough sub anyway so there's no reason to do any crazy fab work if they're not staying.
