I thought I would write about my experience with PWK's enclosure design service, which I have utilized twice now.
If you don't know about PWK he offers an enclosure design service that is supposed to find the optimal enclosure based on your specific vehicle, the maximum space available for an enclosure, and your subwoofer/amp combo. In his videos there is a bit of a 'wow factor' because he shows enclosures like transmission lines and horns which can have surprising amounts of output given the low amount of power and cone area used. See his "What's in my trunk" videos for reference.

My first experience
I submitted a rather specific form asking for a horn and was never replied to. I asked around a bit and found out that he doesn't necesarily take requests like that since a horn may have not been what was optimal for my setup with the listening goals that I gave him.
There is a chance he replied and it got caught in my spam or I mispselled my e-mail or something...
My second experience
I sent a request for 2 12s with about 5-6 cubic feet or airspace. I don't know what I was thinking but I expected something special. Stupid me didn't realize that with that airpsace and two 12's you can't do much better than a ported box. Well, the one he designed was nearly spot on with the one I already had so I didn't build it. I did however give the plans to a friend who also had two SA-12s, similar power, and the same car as me. He said they sounded pretty good. Still, not worth the ~$65 I spent but I shouldn't have expected anything other than a ported box in the first place.
The only real difference between my box and the one PWK designed was that mine had one port and both subs shared the airspace where his has each subwoofer in its own chamber. The tuning, airspace, port area, etc were all nearly identicle.
It took 8 days to get this design.
Enclosure: 15.5H x 35W x 22D (Inches)
Driver: Sundown SA-12 D4 12" x 2
Powered by 1 Cadence ZRS-C1
Performance: 30Hz - 70-80Hz, Audible Performance
My third experience
This time I wanted to see what I can do with a single X-12 in my car. I figured that one 12 in an efficient enclosure like a 6th, horn, t-line, etc would be pretty impressive and I don't trust myself enough to design those. So, I waited until PWK was able to get his hands on and review the Xs before I submitted a request.
I thought for sure giving him nearly my entire trunk to work with would result in a rather efficient enclosure that can produce some "wow" reactions. I'm going for 'SQL' so I specified that I want audible performance rather than spl with extention down into the upper 20hz region.
It took 17 days to get this design.
Thank you for your PWK Designs project assessment inquiry.
I've just now gotten a chance to review it and it looks like your maximum available external dimensions offer us around 141 liters of loading volume, which is more than sufficient for a very impressive design, with solid performance well into the upper 20Hz region. Keeping the height / width at its maximum shouldn't be a problem, though we'll most likely be able to bring the depth down a tad.
Enclosure: 14H x 32W x 24D (Inches)
Driver: Sundown X-12 DVC 4 ohm x 1
Goal: Listening Purposes
Music: Hip-hop, dubstep, indie pop
I would like the enclosure to be semi-walled (sealed off from the
trunk) and for that to happen the given max width and height need to
be used but I suppose there can be some leeway. <br />
This is intended to be a 'SQL' build and extention down into the upper
20hz range would be appreciated.
So there's the design I got - a ported box. I'm going to build it and see how it works out and hopefully I'm not let down lol. It looks to be about 2.75 cubes @ 33-34hz with 16 square inches of port area per cubic foot. It's not exactly what I expected to receive but I will update this with how it sounds when I do get it built. It still kind of sucks to pay $65 for something I could have designed myself. It's actually very similar to the enclosure I have it installed in right now. Im tuned a bit lower with a little less airpsace though...
Price - 6/10 (Would be higher if they weren't boxes I can design myself)
Communication - 9.5/10
Lead Time - 8/10 (I may be more patient than most)
Design Quality - 9/10 (The pictures are accurately labeled and documented - A cut sheet would be nice though)
04 GP - SQL-ish
