Default 1000c4 pop repair [blown power supply]

Do you have to remove the entire board for this fix or can you do this by just removing the back cover?

It is done by delaying the turn on circuit for a couple of seconds, which insures that the amplifier continues to soft turn-on/off.
I believe it is easy to do without removing the board. I will ask our tech which exact part needs to be replaced and will PM you soon. By the way, if you would rather us do it, you can send it in for a free fix.

If the only thing that has to be done is delay the turn on, couldn't a relay be used?

I have tested that amp about a bazillion times. I know what it does clean, clipped, dirty, loaded, unloaded, wired down, low voltage, good voltage, after it hot, while it's cool, on caps, on batts, where it protects, what's thermal limits are and just about anything else anyone would care to know about it.

But thanks for chiming in. Your opinion is duly noted.

I ended up taking the entire board out to get the new cap in but I noticed that one of the smaller frets looked burnt. Any advice on this I will upload a pic

Your power supply transistors are blown. You need (12) IRFZ44N and you'll need to confirm but the (12) resistors appear to be 100ohm 1/8watt.

it may need the turn on transistors also.

blowing the power supply on an AB amp usually means the voltage dropped too low or the amp was driving too low of an impedance. {this means no other repair should be needed to make it operate again}

agreed.
the solder on the transistors is not smooth like the solder on the rest of the board.

to the question of removing the board, yes, to repair it correctly, it needs to be removed

for anyone having a turn-on turn-off pop, this is a SWEET Option. {OS Hifonics had it and it worked excellent}

The amp still works fine to my knowledge. And also where are you counting 12 transistors? And it seems that the amp would not turn on with a blown power supply correct?

(12) counts all the power supply transistors because they all experienced the stress which caused the two to fail.

think of it like a zipper, you can replace just those two and sooner or later either those or the next ones in line will fail. it is possible for others to be shorted or open without the damage being visible.

The amp can turn on with two transistors exploded. it should have inherent noises induced from the exploded transistors.. but yes, it can turn on.

honestly, with just two blown like that, it's likely they blew almost immediately after the repair.
