Default Symphony Comps X-over

I just purchased a set of your Symphony SC650's to replace my long suffering Polk MMC 6500's and when I was agonizing over what to buy (it was between the JBL GTO 609C's, these and Infinity Kappa 60.9's) the fact that these had 12db/octave on the tweeters and the woofers were part of the deciding factor (along with the 3.8Khz crossover point, but I digress) and fast forward to my opening the box today I see a crossover that has 12db/octave on the tweeter but only 6db/octave on the mids. There are a grand total of two chokes and one cap in the crossover (along with 2 resistors on the tweeter attenuating circuit). I pulled it out of the shell to trace the paths and sure enough, the woofer positive goes through the bigger inductor and straight to the woofer + There is no cap across the woofer leads like you'd expect in a 12db circuit. Is this a misprint on your site?

Are you saying there is absolutely no components connected to the mid on the crossover?

There is one, an inductor. That means first order or 6db/octave. For 12db/octave you'd have an inductor in series with the mid and a cap parallel to it. For a tweeter the reverse is true. The cap is in series and the inductor is parallel. These crossovers have a cap in series with the tweeter and an inductor parallel to the tweeter but the mid only has the inductor in series with it. There is no second cap.

I spoke to someone at Crescendo today and sure enough the crossovers are 6db on the mids and 12db on the tweeters. Since I wasn't requested to not discuss the conversation the gist of it is that when they prototyped the sets the original crossovers were 12db on both elements but they got switched to 6db and 12db after going into production. This was done without their knowledge or consent so they're pretty much blameless in this as they were advertising what they thought they were selling based off what their OEM/ODM had agreed to supply.

Needless to say that while I'm not terribly happy about not getting what I had thought I was paying for I can't fault them because we're both in the same boat. Plus, in light of my finding this (they had no idea prior to my call) they gave me a credit towards a future purchase which I'll most likely take them up on when I decide to replace my even more tired rear stage. Although at that point I'll likely go with their Mezzo series comps, move them into the doors and put the Symphony's in my rear deck. At any rate, the upshot is that they're good guys and weren't trying to do anything shady, stuff just happens.
