Default dc level 5 m1 surround

just trying to get some info on a level 5 m1 . i just bought 2 local one has the normal surround the other has what appears to be a white mesh inside. can anyone tell me if this was an upgarde ? also it seems that the outter foam is very brittal and easy to get damaged and fall off is this normal? have some pics for refrence . also the material is visable but there is no hole and the bottom layer is intact does this need a new surround or can it be used as is ? coils read fine and dont want to damage the sub more .

thanks cal

On the one with the normal surround, look and see if it has AR stamped on the back.

What it looks like to me is you have 1 standard reinforced surround and one AR cone/surround.

The damage to the reinforced surround appears to just be cosmetic as well.

The surround can be replaced, but you run more of a risk of damaging the cone and needing a full recone kit.

i understand and dont mind running it like this untill it gets worse then attempt to repalce the surround.
also i got a few spots where the screw hit the surround and its not threw so im thinking of using something to glue it what do u recomend? seems like this type of surround stops from making a hole but once u hit the inner core it graps and pulls the top layer. and if this surround rips during a hard jam would that cause damage to the coil or spider?

sorry about all the questions been looking around for these for awhile

You have one with the reinforced surround and one of the older foam surrounds. Both have the same throw and will function together just fine.

Now to fix your prob you need all purpose goop. Comes in a blue tube with goop in big red letters. You dont need to use alot. Just a bit on the hole area and the screw side. Its like rubber fiber glass lol Very strong and extremely durable and flexible. Nothing else works as well.
