Default lvl5 18 box discussion 4th/6th order

So... i have plenty of room to do what I'd like with 1 lvl5 18.

box I have internally is around 38 cubes so airspace really isn't much of an issue.

it will be either a 4th or 6th order.

on between 4-7k rms

looking on box specs or airspace needs from someone who has worked with the subs before.

what I have currently I can do one NASTY 4th order with around 3.5 cubes sealed and around 14 ported. with 2x4 (walls basically like your house is put together) making box flex NOTHING.

but the box space I have to work with is 41 wide, 37 tall and 49 deep. so you tell me :he llo:

issue is the qts on the sub isn't posted.

what would you consider high/low?

also. my sub isn't the standard setup. I have 2 extra spiders *(stiff!) added to the regular spiders.

so I assume the qts is slightly higher than whats the norm for the subs.

I love everyone thinking these 1:4 ratios or something of bandpasses are correct.
First off, you cant guess. Chances are (and chances are good) that you will be ENTIRELY INCORRECT and end up with a shitty peaky response.
Most people that build them just dont know any better, have no real audio/listening experience, and their cabin hides their shitty response.

You cant design a bandpass for a woofer with no specs. A 4th order will not work well either.
Chances are even if you did a 4th order design for it the front chamber would be annoyingly small and would require hella port. The 6th order it really should be in wont give the insanely unrealistic power handling you are looking for out of a single 3" coil sub.

The extra spiders are great. Youre killing your daily driver to feed it more power. Which either way, a 3 inch voice coil isnt going to like the 5k+ you have on tap if thats supposed to be daily.

But hey, this is purely speculation. I could be entirely wrong and you could feed is 10kw before it dies thermally/mechanically. But Im willing to bet against it.

theres nothing wrong with a 1:4 ratio. just be really peaky around the tuning frequency.

the power handling raises a little with the sealed section being a bit smaller but honestly i dont know why you have such a large sealed chamber for one 18.

There isnt? Post me a reaponse of an SA12 in a 4th order with a ratio of 1:4 that is reasonable.

It varies between sub to sub. Often, the front chamber is smaller. Ive no clue where people are getting these crazy huge ass chamber ideas from, but its your build - not mine. **** it up if you please.

I had a 4:1 ratio on my last bandpass, and it wasn't all that peaky. It'd play 20-25hz below tuning like it was nothing. After that point though, it died (unfortunately, tuned at around 60hz, that made it not very enjoyable to listen to daily). It was extremely efficient with the larger ported chamber though. That box would do mid 142's from the trunk with 700w with 2 10s. When I added power though, I ran into serious power compression. Then again, I was feeding the woofer twice rated power in .5 cubes sealed each.

he already was running 2 crescendo 3kwps strapped at "1ohm" to 2 lvl5 18s and they never even got warm. played 15-20hz under tuning and never even bottomed out. i was impressed, i wasnt to sure on how they would handle 4200rms each and it was a walk in the park.
personally imo 5000+ to a single sub is a bit much daily imo even for a 4inch coil but rob is a little crazy lol

Not calling you a liar.. but I think youre lieing. I doubt the sub took 4k basically free air below FS.
