Default need lv5 knowledge

This will be my first DC sub. I am getting a lv5 motor and 18" basket and d1 recone from rusty, this is going in an 02 s-10 ext cab and run on a DD z1 @.5ohms, 2xs 3100s 280amp alt lots of 1/0 wire. It will be mostly for a daily driver but will do as many shows as i can so I need good #s. I'm thinking 6cf after sub forward ports up.Will 4 4" areos tuned to 36hz be enough for 1 18 in 6cf. Any ideas or info will be greatly appericated

Would just go with two 6s or a slot port. 6 Cubes is a bit big. The lvl5 has a HUGE motor and I can pretty much guarantee you itll like smaller boxes.
Especially on the Z1 at .5. Id go with around 4cubes at whatever tuning you feel fit.

Thanks like I said I haven't used any DCs yet trying to find out what they like, tuning wise box size port area that kind of stuff. The reason I was thinking about 4 4" ports I can get them at a good deal.

Well.....

In most cases I recommend 5.5cu for a lvl 5 18. With the power your gonna have on tap and that low of tuning I'm thinking 5cu after port displacement. Did ya discuss with Rusty about how many spiders to run? I recommend 5

Hmmm. I never thought about modding the subs to adapt to the power I'm running. So thorshammer, how many spiders would you suggest on 2 DC XL 18s at 31Hz on 4500RMS?

I have tested that amp about a bazillion times. I know what it does clean, clipped, dirty, loaded, unloaded, wired down, low voltage, good voltage, after it hot, while it's cool, on caps, on batts, where it protects, what's thermal limits are and just about anything else anyone would care to know about it.

But thanks for chiming in. Your opinion is duly noted.

Thor I haven't called rusty yet was just trying to get a idea on about how a recone would cost. still have to pic up the motor, will get with you or rusty and figure out what will work best. Thanks for your suggestions so far like I said I know next to nothing about what DCs like.

Take a look at the TC 5200 and other large-motor subs. They like small boxes, and thats generally a property of these types of subs with strong motors and a tight gap.
Four cubes IMO should be fine. Five would decrease power handling but it would give you a bigger peak down low, if thats what you want.

the 5 cubes w 5 spiders should do very well if you want a lil higher numbers tune up around 38 with decent port area around 16"sq per cube but if ya want to crush the lows and be loud doing it tune around 35hz and give it plenty of port 18"sq per cube area. it will take a good lil bit to loosen up that stack of spiders, but once they do with that kinda power it should be a beast keep it clean and she'll love you long time. just my 2 cents

To keep that sub lively for intense daily abuse i would suggest looking into the ELSP upgrade for the suspension. Now you are going to ask what is ELSP? Extended Life Spider Pack. It is something we have been working on to keep the suspension "fresh" longer under high demand use.
