Default DC 5k and 12k clamp results

The first test on the 5k was done by a friend that has the 5k wired at .5 running on a SMD 18.

Courtesy of kickass audio on SMD:

If someone is in the market for a DC Audio 5.0k amplifier then look here for the results i got out of my 5.0k.

I am running just one of these amps up to my single AA SMD 18" dual 1 ohm sub in a 5.5 cubic foot box tuned to 30Hz. The test was made with my sub wired in parallel to achieve a nominal impedance of .5 ohms and the battery voltage was 13.7v. The clamp results are as follows:

30Hz tone: 1454.583 watts at 1.41 ohms
35Hz tone: 2525.54 watts at 1.63 ohms
40Hz tone: 4061.64 watts at 1.37 ohms
45Hz tone: 5291.84 watts at .976 ohms
50Hz tone: 5161.32 watts at .971 ohms
55Hz tone: 5215.0 watts at .939 ohms
60Hz tone: 4778.4 watts at .912 ohms

Average impedance rise and wattage from 30-60Hz: 4096.76 watts at 1.173 ohms

Overall i am really satisfied with my DC 5.0k even though the low end tones have less power than my old amp (two Massive Audio DB8000's strapped at .5 ohms nominal) but the higher notes have a lot more power and the clarity of my 5.0k is amazing. With my DB8000's the clarity was alright but the bass was really punchy, with the 5.0k the bass seems to have a slower run off and a more even tone. Plus with this amp, it doesnt get warm at all when my engine is running, if i bump the amp at around half volume with the truck off for a total of 3 hours (i sit in the parking lot at class until my next night class starts) only one half of the amp is warm but its not enough to burn you like my old DB8000's.

Here are my results from the 12k.

I just got done clamping the 12k that I have running in the Dodge Caravan with 4 XL 18s and here are the results.

First the rated power chart.

14.4v
4 ohm 1200x2
2 ohm 2100x2
1 ohm 3400x2

.5ohm @ 12v 4200x2
.5ohm @ 14.4 5500x2
.5ohm @ 16v 6500x2

My Results- These tests were done 1 channel at a time and obtained identical numbers.

Tests were with voltage drop down to 12v.

Hz Amps Volts Watts Ohms Rise

30hz 44a 71v 3124x2 @ 1.61ohm 1.11ohm

35hz 40a 70v 2800x2 @ 1.75ohm 1.25ohm

40hz 40a 70v 2800x2 @ 1.75ohm 1.25ohm

45hz 41a 68v 2788x2 @ 1.65ohm 1.15ohm

50hz 42a 67v 2814x2 @ 1.59ohm 1.09ohm

Average- 2865.2w x2 @ 1.67ohm

This test was done with both channels wired at .5ohm

Overall I am extremely happy with the output of the 12k and most important the owner is happy. The van is playing music at 149-152.

Any numbers on the voltage drop?

It seems very odd to me that even though impedance rise is similar that output is so varied from tone to tone. Care to explain that? Where were the SSF and LPF set?

And why is it called a "12k" if it's not a 12k? Lol.

This just has to do with the variance in the amperage and voltage output at the frequencies measured. The ssf is at 25hz and the lpf is at 70hz.

And why is it called a "12k" if it's not a 12k? Lol.

The 12k will do 12000w at reactive .5ohm per channel at 16v. If you look at my clamped numbers per channel and see the big highlighted red ratings you will see that the amp is putting out true rated power at 12v.
Answers are in purple.

Here are the ratings.

Output Power (RMS) at 4 ohm 14.4V 1200W x 2 at 2 ohm 2100W x 2 at 1 ohm 3400W x 2 at 0.5 ohm 12V 4200W x 2 at 0.5 ohm 14.4V 5500W x 2 at 0.5 ohm 16V 6500W x 2
Considering that I am getting rated power with voltage drop to 12v, I would be comfortable saying that if you can get reactive .5 per channel or 1 ohm bridged, you would see the full 12k.

impedance rise is all across the frequency spectrum

although the nature of a woofer makes the highest impedance at the tuning hz making it put out the l least at that point

Funny thing is that the box is tuned to 29hz and I got the most power at 30hz.
