Default could some one help me with some box info

hey guys could someone help me out here. first i wana say i know there is subs that are ment to b used in spl setups(burps etc) and u have your daily setup. so i have had a few 15s and for the most part in a daily ported box tune to 30-34 would u say a good starting point is 4-4.5 for one 15? allso well where talkin about subs lol how about a single 18 in a daily setup what is the smallest box u guys would go with on lets say rated power wich would b some where in the 2k rms range? i just wana try to get some ideas of how big of a box i gota build for some one and i want him to see that even one 18 might b a big box and he could get some crazy output even with a single 15 and still not kill his cargo area. thanks

It's going to all depend on the sub's specs and recommended enclosure size. I don't think there's a rule of thumb as far as boxes go. Brand A could be recommending 2.5 cubes for their subs and brand B could be calling for 3.5 cubes. They're all different.

Not really a starting point. If they call for x.xx cubes tuned to xx hz then just go from there. The enclosures they call for would be if you have the recommended power. If you have less power, then you could make the box a tad bit bigger to compensate for the power. Does that make sense?

oh i understand what to do if u have rated power or less or more as far as what to do with the box. i just wanted to explain to my nephoue that if he goes with a single 15 he still can have some crazy out put kill the lows and not give up his whole cargo area. if we go with sub up port back he can still put stuff back there cuz i dobut he will put anything on top of the sub. i guess i will see what he wants to spend pick out a few diff subs and just go from there. thanks

That would work and yes, you can still have crazy output. It's all in the install. You can make some crappy stuff bang but it's gotta be in the perfect install.

You should look into Obsidian subs too. I have a pair of 12's and love them. They are priced right around that range you're in. Jacob (owner of Sundown) helped with the design. The Obsidian subs would be a step up from Sundown's new line of entry level subs. I don't think you can go wrong with either one but the Obsidians will also take more power.
