Default port area

how do you determine how much port area a sub needs.Rockford told me 256sq.in and 12cu.ft box for my TRF2215 sub and somebody else told me tw0 6" round ports and a 5cuft box........this is very aggravating! i have specs if that would help.

damn thats alot of typing...LOL!!

i had this in the recommended 12cuft box with 256sqin port area but i didnt know jack about tuning so i only had it 6" deep....LOL!! still hit a 146db.

now i have a 5cuft box with two external 6" pvc ports that are about 20" long....sounds like crap though.
any suggestions on ports would be appreciated.
oh....i dont have ANY room to face the ports to the rear so i thought about replacing the pvc ports and adding an external slot port but dont know what port area to use...thanks!!

That was straight out of the mouth of one of the Rockford Fosgate Reps.ive talked with several old members of team rockford and they said that 12cuft was too much and that they just played around with making different boxes until they found one that worked the best....i dont have that much time or money to be making alot of boxes...LOL!!

would it hurt to have a slot port that is 34" x 2.5" or does it have to be within 1:8 ratio?
