required port area has more to do with controlling vent air speed, which in turn depends on how much air the cone is moving. The more the cone is capable of moving, the more port area is needed to keep chuffing to a minimum; enclosure volume only plays a part on the actual tuning frequency, not the vent air speed.

absolutely.

So to answer the OP's question, yea you can IF your single 8" aeroport can keep the vent air speed below about mach 0.10 (around 35 m/s) while being long enough to achieve your target tuning frequency.

which is the exact reason you can't investigate port noise when it's not tuned the the target frequency--vent air speeds are dramatically different when tuned to 15Hz vs 50 Hz, even with the same input power. Luckily these kinds of things can be investigated with programs like WinISD, Bass, Box, Horn Response, and my personal favorite- Akabak.
