Default Box Help with HDC3 12's

I took advantage of the black friday sale! Now it's time to plan. Anyone have experience with the new copper HDC3 12's? They'll be going in a Ford Edge. I'm thinking 5 cubes @ 35hz with 80 in^2 of port. Both subs and port facing rear. I've also thought about port facing drivers/passenger side. Anyone have any suggestions? Looking for input from people that have experience with this sub in this type of vehicle; on anything from enclosure size to tuning to port area to sub/port orientation.

Thanks!

What kind of power do you have? I have quite a few AQ subs, lol. That box should work just fine. If you need to take it down to 4.5 cubes, it'll still be fine. That's what I have for a couple 12s. But around 110 sq in of port. It's more for spl though. So 80 sq inches of port should be fine for daily. I would do sub up, port back. If you don't have any room between the box and back hatch, do port to the side.

Right now, just an AQ2200. Have plans for a second one in the future. This is definitely for daily. Don't want to be too peaky around tuning, and don't want to lose too much output below tuning. That's why I chose 80 in^2 of port. Sounds like I'm in the right ballpark for what I'm looking for. I'm not really convinced on subs facing up though. I've played around with that before and found the upper bass to be better when they're facing the rear.

Thanks! You remember how much port? I'm not looking for just loud. I'm expecting it to be loud. lol. Just trying to avoid extremely peaky response and keep the lows.

Sorry, just saw hatch and I think sub up, lol. I have a blazer so i've never worked with that shape vehicle before. Either way, they should punish the lows. My box is "tuned" to 52 on torres but the few members on here who heard it can vouche that it sounded great and dug down to 35 with authority. And that's low enough for me, lol. Good luck man!

I'm actually wondering if 35 is too low of a tuning, but not sure. When I had my hdc3 10's, they were in 3cf @ 35hz and absolutely destroyed from 25-45hz. I actually had to turn my ssf up to balance out the frequency response. lol. I'm hoping these will be a little flatter.

i built a box for a new style hdc3 12.. customer wanted it EXACTLY to aq's specs//
so i tuned it to 38hz used 14.5" of port per cube and 2.5ish cubes net..and literally anything below 34 35hz was basically air movement.. i was VERY dissapointed,. so i actually made another box free of charge..and did 30hz tune 14" per and 2.5 cube.. NOW it played welll below 30hz and topped out in the mid 40hz range like around 45 46hz..

also..i would do sub up port back OR subs back and port to the passenger side

Hm, i had a 15 in a 4.5 cube box @ 38, it didn't necessarily "destroy" the lows, but it sounded awesome at 30hz and below, and it never bottomed out either.
