Default Box for overpower sub

I have a quick question and I get mix answers when I Google it.

When you over power your subs do you build a smaller box?

ok great thanks. I just picked up for the fun 4 Soundstream Rubicon 12" single 4 ohms voice coil they call for 1.5 to 3ft^3 per subs. For fun and see what they can do I will be 2 Phoenix Gold TI800.1 on them and trying to figure out what size of box to build them.
I would like a ported box, each sub is rated at 250 watts rms and the TI800.1 is rated at 800 watts rms.

What would be a good size box for them?

Try 7 cubes net to start with, utilizing a couple or several flared round ports, and then you would be a great place to start your testing and more testing. I bet when/if you get down into the 6 cubes net range, and whatever tuning you prefer, you'll be at the loudest they're going to get with a decent sounding response and passband.

But, IMO, I'd sell those four drivers and purchase a pair of more capable 12" or pair of 15" drivers that can use the 1.6kW available, much better. And well, they'll get louder I'd bet, and sound great while doing so. Oh, and if you choose to, the pair of 15" drivers will use an enclosure essentially the same size as the four 12" would normally use, but not always.

Thanks for that info, I design a box that 8.02 cube net 49" wide X 28" high X 18" deep with a 5" high 20" wide 23.25" long tuned to 32hz. double baffle front.

The reason I'm using the Rubicon I got all 4 for $80 and wanted to see what they can do.
