Default Sub / port orientation? My first trunk car

So i'm underway purchasing and planning for my new build. Front stage aside, the sub stage is going to be 4 RE audio REX8 sub woofers. The box is going to be ~ 5.8 cubic feet after displacement, tuned to 38hz with 2 4" aero ports.

My question is, how should I orient the subs and port for maximum effect? or does it matter? I've never built anything for a car with a trunk, only suv's in the past.

Ive been reading into it a bit, and it sounds like the combination of subs up, port into driver side trunk panel is recommended the most?

Car is a 2010 Volkswagen jetta

You're going to put four 8" subs in 5.8 cubes?

Puzzled me too....

OP, are you wanting to conserve on space or don't care and just want maximum output?

5.8 cubes is right above the "standard" for what RE calls for. 5.6 is what they say. Seems huge to me, too. But maximum output is the main concern, weight of enclosure second.

I guess on this entire forum of SPL freaks nobody has any idea as to what is the best sub / port arrangement.

Nope. Most test each orientation to see which works. But typically subs up or forward, port on driver side into the cabin is loudest to meter.

I still don't see how you are going to run 1.4 cubes per 8" sub. Hope you aren't planning on running too many watts.

Sub back port to driver side was good in my trunk until I did subs/port forward and sealed off.

Lol that volume is WAY off. And why the hell would you not use larger drivers if you are willing to give up that much space? Sorry for being blunt, but really?

Well the volume for the enclosure came right off RE's website. I figure they know, considering they made the woofers. Im thinking I'll try subs up, port into drivers side.

Because I'm only going to run one battery, and have about 600 watts rms to play with. Into only a 4 ohm load. (using a d7152 bridged). So multiple drivers makes the most sense. My driver choice only needed to handle 200 or so watts and weight is the second biggest concern. ~ 30 lbs for the drivers and probably the same or a bit more for the enclosure. Cost is another concern, I paid like 160 bucks for the 8's and Im pretty happy with the choice.

Like everything, there are multiple ways to get the same results. Always wanted to do a bushel of 8's.

And again, the volume requirements for the enclosure came right of RE's website. I've heard the same subs in similar volume(s) and power. They worked well.
