Default hatch back help

I'm going to build a box for a friend to go in his 2003 toyota celica. The box is for 2 sa 1`2's, I can get 4 cu ft after displacement and a port area of 64"..... 16" per cu ft tuned to 35htz. My main concern is woofer and port placement, I believe the best would be subs up port back, the issue is if I do that the port would be about 2" from the back of the car and I think it would restrict the flow. Would I be better woofers forward and port up,woofers up-port up or some other configuration? All help and opinions are appreciated!

Could you do subs up, port to the drivers side? I've always had luck with that setup in my Mitsubishi eclipse.

the only place i can put the port on the box without restricting air flow is on the top...I have room for subs up/ port up....subs front/ port up...any configuration, just worried about the port being so close to the car body if I put it to the rear, side,or front.

Ok no problem. You can put it to the back or side and the short space between the port and the wall will help with loading and it will drop the tuning a bit. I have my system subs up port back right now, 8 inch aero, tuned to 40 hz, firing back with around 1.5 inches space between it and the back of the trunk in my car, and it wangs pretty good from around 28-70 hz. With the SA's and decent power, it shouldn't hold you back to much though. Musical louder to the ear, I would go with port to the side or in the center between the subs firing up, metering volume, I have had more luck with port back tuned a bit higher than your looking for.

Here's a pic of what I'm running for reference since I doubt I made any sense above

I did port up and sub up in that car, it is loud. I wouldn't tune that high with those subs either, like 32-33 hz for how I'd like it.
