Default Plexi window on box

Planning to do a plexi glass window on my next box. Box will be fore 4 SA12s on around 3k.

My question is what thickness of plexiglass wouldbe safe? 1/2" sufficient? Would it depend on the size of the plexi? the box will be built from 3/4 MDF and the rear wall will be where the window is. Will be flush mount window.

Unless the window is tiny, you should use 3/4"...

Yeah unless the window is only 8x8 or less you want to go with 3/4 to avoid any flex.

I think it's probably because that sub is not moving enough to allow it to cool.. Id turn the gain up a bit so it moves more for cooling reasons.. That's why it's hard on subs to be underpowered..

^^^This. And leakage is the biggest drawback on windows too. The smaller the window, the better off you are.

Planning on using Aeros so window will be across the back and probably only 8" tall by 2-3 foot wide.

on the baffle/wall that the plexi is going on, make the plexi as an insert piece that'll sit flush with the original baffle. if you're using 3/4" mdf use 3/4" plexi. here's how i did my last plexi window. made baffle out of 3/4" mdf and cut out the positive shape of the window than made the negative shape out of plexi so it would fit right in. than made a 1/2" baffle to match the positive with a 2" lip for the plexi to mount to. the plexi actually pressure fit into the piece pretty tight once the box was wrapped. I used t nuts with hex head bolts to mount it, i recessed them 1/8" into the plex. I can't wait to do my next one.

I just built a box for 4 sa 10's with 2 9" x 9" plexi windows, I did 3/4 thick, and had them so they lay flat on the rear, and then I cut out another piece that sits around the plexi so that it's all flush, and then i took the plexi off and glued the 2nd piece to it so the back is doubled up.

I used 2" bolts, washers on both sides and a pressure washer inside, all 4" apart with 1/2" wide and 1/2" thick weather stripping to bolt it down and seal it off. (Didn't wanna just screw it down, so now if my tuning is off or I wanna go lower I can take out the window and easily add to the port without worrying about it stripping out the wood

just so you can visualize it here is a pic of a template. we'll call the larger template, A, and the smaller one, B.

take A, trace it on to your 3/4" baffle. cut out on line (way more detailed way to do this with precision). place A onto piece of plexi, router out shape. place your 3/4" and 1/2" baffle on one another, place insert into 3/4" baffle and router out inside of A. now assemble 3/4" and 1/2" baffles, finish as desired. place plexi into opening and attach with bolts. obviously this is overly simplified. maybe I should make a video or something. B should be the rough size of your window.
