Default first time aero port noob

so im building a box for my next build and im deciding between 2 type r 12's and two SA-12's.
Ive already done some box calculations but i wanted to use aeroports and am a little lost so here are the specs and if anyone could help me figure out what to use that would be much appreciated.
here are the dimensions of the box------ outside dimensions of box---- 30in wide, 25in long, 15in high, so inside dimensions (with 3/4 in MDF) would be----- 30x15 for the front and back, 23.5x30 for the top and bottom, and 23.5x13.5 for the sides so it comes out to 28.5x23.5x13.5 which is 5.2 cubic feet without woofer or port displacement

Type R's

with woofer displacement added in it would be 5 cubic feet for both. i used psp-inc.com for the calculator and it said for 3 4in aero ports 17.91in long for 32 hz

SA-12's

with woofer displacement added it would be 4.92 cubic feet for both and using the same calculator and 3 4in diameter flare ports, they should be 18.23in long for 32 hz

so i guess the problem is how do i calculate the port displacement? and is 3 4in ports enough? too much? not enough? any help would be much appreciated.

If it was me, id keep it simple, a single 6" areo or a pair of 4" would be fine for either sub, (single 6" personally) 3 4" is overkill for those subs IMO.

According to Psp-inc.com, for a box 5 cubes net, a single 6" flared areo would have to be 11.49334 (or 11.5") long to get a tune of 32hz.

And to figure out port displacement, you use the formula, (pi) R 2 or Pie x Radius squared x length of tube.

Pie = 3.14, R = radius or 1/2 of the diamenter of your circle (or port) squared (aka times itself) and then times whatever length the areo port has to be. Divide that final number by 1728.

For example for that 6" areo I suggested, that would be 3.14 x 9 x 11.5/ 1728 which gives you a displacement of 0.1880729 or 0.19 cubic feet inside your box.

I know its a bit confusing with the math, but its really easy, hope that helps.

that helped out a lot! thank you, ive been trying to figure all that out all night lol

the single 6in wouldnt fit with 2 12's because the inside width would be 28.5 but the two 4in ones would. so if i use those how would i go about making them or where would i find a place to buy them?

Got ya, and its no problem, its what the forum is suppose to be about, and that gets forgotten sometimes lol.

and here ya go partsexpress.com

Precision Port 4" Flared Port Tube Kit 268-352

But remember the flare on the PSP ports is wider that 4", I have one, and its a bit over 7" wide, something to consider.

Might have to fire the ports out the side, dont see you having a baffle wide enough for the 12s and the areos.

damn i didnt think of that! would having it firing out of the side effect the performance of it? if im going for a daily groundpounder, would i loose some spl having it fire from the side rather than the front?

I dont have any personally experence with it, but I know alot of forum members on here have done it in various cars without issues. I know a guy that had (4) SA 12s in a large trunk car (Impala SS) ported subs firing back and a single 12" areo he made firing out the side, sounded great and pounded.

Whats these subs going in? (car, truck, suv?l)

No problem man, good luck! And believe me I know, I had a 1999 Neon about 10 years ago lol, little rattle prone trunk, but some deadning would help. I did a pair of 12s sealed rear firing in that car and sounded great, but hated the sound of the trunk lid rattling.

Dead set on the 12s? Maybe you could do some 10s firing forward instead of the 12s.
