Default Port q's

does anyone have any technical explainations for the reason of the difference between round, rectangle and triangle ports? example; i build a 12ft box with 120"^2 of port area and tune it bout 36hz.. if i did a rectangle port just say 3x40 it would need to be 24-26" long... but i used a 12" round port and only need bout 13"length... is there something about a round port that uses the same area but needs less length? any tru infos appreciated... im just looking to expand my knowledge

The 12" round port has less area. 6.9" less to be exact. Still, it shouldn't cut the length in half.

That's just bizarre. It's always been my experience that to cut the length in half you need a big difference in port area. 6.9 sq in just isn't that big of a difference. Try cutting the square port's area down to 113.1" and see where the length goes. 2.8275" X 40" would give the same area as the 12" round port.
