Default No-wall... 4th order vs ported

Ok so I currently have a 4th order wall in my Honda civic and I just picked up a 02 Tahoe. When it comes to no-wall setups, would I be better off ditching the 4th order and just doing subs up port back? I'm going to take the 4th out of the civic and put it in the Tahoe for the time being but I just want to know if I'm just wasting time by leaving it in the truck when I'd be better off with a ported box

I have a pair of SA15's in a 8:3 4th order in my civic on a popcorn 2500. It'll easily fit below the window line in the Tahoe and I want to stay with the same equipment for now. Car did a 46.2 @ 46hz on music. If it'll be quieter with this box in the truck then I'll build a ported box

I just realized my original post might be confusing. I'm ditching the civic completely. I want to know if I should use my 4th order from the civic in the Tahoe or take the subs out and build a ported box instead

I would build another box personally. Why ditch the civic? they get loud easily.

i would never build a bandpass unless its a wall. thats what i stick by. its not generally worth the space you give up to do a no-wall bandpass. in the same space, you could do a ported box with more subs and have much more output.

Yeah, but wood is way cheaper than subs. He'd need another $400+ worth of subs for a theroretical +3db when that's a modest gain in a single reflex BP.

I'm not arguing for the BP though. Just playing devil's advocate.

Since you are trying to repurpose the box from the Civic, you lose nothing and have to spend nothing to try it in the Tahoe. Try it and see. It might wang. Or it might suck. If it's a win, keep it. If it's not quite what you want, go standard ported.

Thanks guys. I paid $150 for the civic a while ago and I gave it to a buddy who is going to do whatever mechanical work comes along on the truck in return so it's a win win for both of us

That's what I've read from a few people but like the other Taylor said, wood is much cheaper than subs but I see what you're saying about double cone area and being louder, which will happen eventually. I don't have nearly enough power on tap to add 2 more subs

Only reason I made this thread was because I don't feel like cutting the civic to take the wall out but **** it I'll do it anyways because it could get loud. I know for sure it won't be as loud as the civic right off the bat which I'll get discouraged about and not think about the fact that I went from a walled b-pillar Honda to the cargo area of a massive SUV

Is there a way to recycle the BP box? I thought about cutting the sealed section off right at the sub baffle, and putting the subs in the top of the ported section and that'll make it subs up port back with the existing port.
I have an extra sheet of ply from the wall to build a box but with my luck I'll cut the BP up to get the subs out, and the ported box will be quieter lol

If u can't do a 142db with 2 as 15s off 2500watts in a Tahoe u got problems. U should be able to do mid 40s no problem. Just do subs up port back and let her rip. I wouldn't spend all that time taking out the 4th order wall unless it's easy to get out.

Totally spaced on the fact that it was a wall.

Eff that noise. Do a ported and call it a day.
