alright im a complete noob on trunk cars.
never had one until now. miss my hatch so bad - any how im having a kid and can NOT take up room in the trunk area. need strollers and diaper bags / playpen / pack and play bla bla bla... to all be able to load in there. so yeah... no normal box in the trunk for me.
my old monte carlo has a crazy designed trunk - and for some reason i want to be difficult and install the sub facing up to the back of the rear seats and make sort of a blow thru type thing ( or ski hole ) that the sub will fire thru to allow its bass to make it in to the interior of the car. i want most all of the box to live under the rear package tray area - so i dont invade the trunk space = why im going big x max single 12" in the first place vs using my beloved re sx 18 wich would of filled the trunk in its entirety with its beastly 8+ cube box + port
my question is this:
sub placment - seems most logical to me to put the sub in the middle vs off to the left or right, as there is a slight dip where the spare tire would normaly go and allow me to have the most room to build with.
the trunk has theese awfull springs that go across the entire width of the rear deck to spring the trunk lid open and are blocking some vital room i wanted to build in. springs stay and i need to design the box around them.
ok no prob.
im a ported kinda guy
but im thinking sealed for this sub and build. why ? because its going to be tough enough to build a box around the dang trunk spring with out having to also add in a port ( wich i usualy mess up on tuning by a few hz )
but then again i start tricking myself in to thinking i can just use some 4" pvc tube from home depo eazy enough to port thru to the back side of the rear seat an not mess that up.... wich leads me back to sub placment if i do go ported -
would i want sub to one side - and port to the other side ? both sub and port firing in to the cabbin of the car ? or could i get away with sub in the middle and a port on each side as far apart as i can make them ?
the car is not being put together to get metered. its just for fun system with a full range of sound being loud and clear all over the hz spectrum.
full list of gear to go in:
tc3000 12" quad 1.4 wired to 1.4 on a saz1500
changing front and adding rear battery to a pair of matching cosco agms
head unit to power pair of 4way 4x6 for the small horns
pair 6.5 4way up front running the highs and some mid off amp
pair of 6.5 pearless mids from pe in the rear deck off amp
single 8" selenium 8w4p in the middle of the rear deck to add strong fill off amp
60w rms x4ch to run the mids and highs. 8" selenium going to run tri mode bridged off ch 3 and 4 - since its 8 ohms the amp should be ok i think with 4 ohm left and right to the pearless mids
also have a 6ch eq i plan to wire in to help tune the sounds i want / dont want to each set of speakers.
what the heck did i want out of this post ?
placment of sub. center - vs left or right - vs sealed or ported box ( recomend air space for each ? ) and port placment if going ported. hoping for tuning around 34hz if going ported.
also dont buy a 73-77 monte carlo if you want a eazy stereo beast car...
it only came with a crappy pair of undersize 4x6 centered in the dash and a pair of 6x8 in the rear deck
who the heck uses 6x8s ?
