Default SA-8 V2 Box Help

So i'm looking to design/build an SQ ported box for an single SA-8 V2 D4. It will be powered by a 500 watt Alpine amp, at 2-ohms. The problem I'm running into is that Sundown's website listed recommended ported enclosure to be .5-.75 cubic feet @ 35 hz, which is great, but their google sketchup downloadable model is more in the ballpark of .85 cubic feet tuned at 30.36 hz with 14.3 in/ft of port area. That doesn't sound right at all! Any ideas?

Here's the sketchup model downloaded from sundown:

As far as I know even big as 1cu ft. NET gets nasty and works great!

Good Luck,

Kindest Regards.

anywhere between .5-1cuft is gonna work, stay in the .75 range with your power and tune accordingly to what you prefer.

Ok. After some searching I'm settling on .75 cu ft @ 33 hz. But I've run into a snag. I know this shouldn't bother me, but it does. What part of an L-shaped box adds to the net volume? I can't for the life of me get my pen and paper work to match with torres box calculator or RE audio's.

This is my example box, not for the SA-8's just for example. The red is the port, blue is the internal volume. I've calculated the blue area to be 1521.75 cubic inches or .88 cubic feet. But the Torres calculator says it's .93 cubic feet. Am I doing something wrong?

I got the same # as you, I think torres is a little funky when your port has to have a bend in a 3 common wall box. port volume calculates to .39 (.386 actually) but torres says .42

Well I did a lot of digging and unfortunately it seems like Torres has gotten a little inaccurate on port volume/net volume. Maybe its just in the case of 3 common walls. Pen and paper won't fail me, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some sub box wizardry (like end correction). I'm gonna try to design a box and i'll post it up here.

I would do .75 cubes, 32 hz, 17-18 in^2 per cube. I've designed at least 100 sa 8 boxes.

That seems to be exactly where I want it. It will be on 500 watts not 600- don't know if that changes how I want it to perform. Thats why i was leaning closer to .75 than .5. I just can't believe an 8 would like to be tuned to 32! Thats amazing. Will it reach that low?

4 of them did a 141.2 @ 28 hz in a chrysler 300. Not my box design but they will play low for an 8.
