Default possible unloading concerns with 8" aero port.

Ok guys, I've been going back and forth with my build and have some concerns i'd like to get addressed before I continue further. I've got non conventional build going, i have two stereo integrty ht-15 subs. similar to the obsidian 15 in motor strength and design but alot softer spider, next i got is a stereo integrity HST-15 that is similar to a zv4 in motor strength and high roll surround but again has a softer spider. I was told by Nick to go around 3 cubes per for both type of subs for an in car application, i believe to help in power handling. I would like to do 4 cubes all seperate chambers (3 sub setup) with an 8" aero per chaber just incase i upgrade to two more zv4-15's and recone the HST-15 to zv4 specs (which if i did would all be spl cones w/ nsv2 coils.) Would running the SI HT-15's in 4 cubes and 8" of port cause them to possibly unload? I was told by Nick to use 6" aero's for them but if i use those in 4cubes my vent velocity is in the 50's i believe. am i overthinking it? Oh also power is supplied via CAB 1600.1 for the pair of si ht-15's and was planning on maybe purchasing another to run the hst-15. here's the specs for them both:

Stereo Integrity HT 15" D2 Subwoofer (mine are d4)

Personally I would not use 2 different styles of subs in the same setup regardless of them being in different enclosures. Yes you can use an 8" aero with the single 15 but keep in mind if you want to tune low then the 8" aero is going to present a problem with length needed in a 4 cube enclosure. (IE 32 Hz tuning = 28" length. The 6" aero would simplify things quite a bit.

yes I get that alot lol, I've had my questions too but Nick assured me I would have no issues running them together as well as others. While I know its not optimal I just wanna bang more lmao! Its what I got so I'm gunna see how she goes. I did some more modeling with it and it looks like I should be around 22 m/s with an 8" aero at around 4.19 cubes after displacement. This is tuned at 37 though cuz like you mentioned the port was too long and was less that 8" away from the rear of my box. I wanted to be around 34-35 for this build as that's what I run now and had previously built a port extender to drop tuning to 29 and didn't really like how quiet it was, although the shake was better and overall sounded cleaner, but that high buzz that tickles your nose hairs was gone lol. But thanks for answering, also what port velocity should I worry about it being before its too low? Also mine is at meters a second should I be looking at it in feet per second? Thanks!

man I read that wrong I thought you were saying 28hertz tuning, yes 32-35 is where I would be happy, my only thought was with a 6" aero my velocity at 4.19 cubes is around 38 meters a second is this too high? I was told 34 and under was better and around 22 was optimal, your thoughts?

I've always been told anything under 40 mas for port velocity is ok. My last setup was a single 15 in 6.5 cubes net on 5k clamped with a custom oval aero (8" equivalent) and my port velocity was around high 30s and I had no issue. I was tuned at 31. It would do mid 53s at the headrest and hair trick for days for a single sub set up.

I have a pair of HT-18's that I bought for a DIY home theater project. And like you said the suspension is very soft. If you want to go ported I'd suggest sticking to nicks recommendation of 3.5-4 cu ported with a 6" aero.

But my vote is build a 4th order for them

I've modeled 4ths on winisd and they are too peaky, big and show low spl at least for my ht-15's, 6th order is where it shines but still too big a box for only added higher hertz spl. My thinking for building bigger was to be able to upgrade in the future and not have to rebuild a new box, but I may just build big and stuff with some 6x6 blocks to decrease internal volume back to 3cubes...idk...like I said before I seem to have a new idea every day and can't decide lol. Damn thing got me dreaming about box building in my sleep and day dreaming at work lol. Basshead problems smh

1loudmonte I'm interested in hearing about your custom oval port, I read where JBL did some testing back in the day and found an oval was the most efficient port to have. I've thought about getting a 8" PVC warm enough to squeeze flat in a vice clamp to create an oval in maybe a 6" equivalent. How was yours made if you don't mind me asking? Thanks again bro!

Ok sweet! wow that sounds like a nice port, best of both worlds adjustable horn like, me and my buddie were just contemplating the ideah of a horn port yesterday, but yours being adjustable just sounds damn right awesome!
