Default Wall Thickness - 4 - 15" Zv4

Howdy,

For any builders out there what would be the minimum thickness for the side walls, rear and baffle I should go with? Baltic Birch is being used to build the wall. It will be a simple ported flat wall.

Thanks for any input.

Minimum of 2 layers with bracing. Have u ever heard bass in a concrete basement? I had a sony 12 in a old box from my car on 250w in a basement. I bet it would have metered mid 50's in some spots in the room. Point being that the room didn't lose any of the energy and it was unbelievable how loud it was for the gear. Conservation of energy holds true in every situation! With that being said I would do as many layers as possible. Sides of my wall are 3 layers and it's solid.

Thanks - are you using 3/4" thick material? There will definitely be plenty of bracing I just wanted to ensure I had appropriate thickness for the walls and baffles. Trying to get as much input as possible!

I did have a pretty nice Paradigm Home Theater system. The 10" sub was either 400 or 500w sub. The output was absolutely insane and the air it moved. They definitely knew how to build their boxes. I brought it down for a party in college and it shook the 3 story house... attic floors were shaking pretty good. Sound waves are definitely an interesting and fun beast.

I'd do 1.5inch thick and brace everything, 3 layers on the front baffle, with the third layer I usually flush mount. It's still adding stiffness and looks a lot better IMO. If you do that, flexing is kept to a minimum while still leaving a lot of airspace available. You don't see them a lot, but window bracing is particularly strong and flex resistant in my experience. It also couples perpendicular walls together, which I feel is a large benefit.

Thanks Seems to be the consensus is around 1.5" thick from the various people I've spoken with! Looking forward to hearing my first wall and having a wall! No one around here has one.
