Default Which wood to use?

Just called the local hardware store and they carry MDF or 9 birch plywood.

MDF is roughly $25-30 a sheet, and birch ply is $35-40 a sheet. I was told to use 11 birch plywood, 9 ply still any good??

I went with birch on my new wall. The guy that built it for me said that they had done a few builds with everything being equal and gained a few tenths when they used birch. I don't know if it was 9 or 11 ply but if you are going to double wall it I doubt it would make a huge difference. There's always the benefit of the birch weighing less to factor into your decision as well. For me, it was worth the extra money to use birch.

I can't find 11ply. I'll just go with 9ply.

I just checked and mine is 9 ply. I haven't put much power to it yet but with the small amount currently on it, it pounds.
