Default home depot birtch sheets, are these acceptable for enclosures?

So I want to try to build a birtch box for the added strenght and look it gives. Is the homedepot purebond birtch sheets acceptable for this? Is that what most use? Also any tips tricks when working with birtch? Drivers will be 2 or 3 obsidain audio d1 18's that have the 8 layer aluminum wire spl coils (the 3rd depends on if I can get Nick to make me a drop in to match the 2 I got from his old civic) also power will come via 2 cab 1600.1's strapped at 1 ohm for 2 or 1.5 ohms for 3. Shooting for 12 cubes after displacement for 2 or 15 for 3. Any suggestions on port area needed for each box tuned at 32hz? My computer is down so I can't calculate vent mach speed of around 20 for each so if someone has winisd and dont mind plugging in the numbers that would be freaking awesome! Thanks again guys!

I would try a local hardware/lumber store instead. (non-major chain stores)

That's what I did when I bought my *birch---pretty spendy too. Like 60-65 bucks a sheet. Birch ply, the more layers, the better.

Yeah I believe its only 5 ply....3/4 th inch....$50 for a sheet of 4x8. I'll try some local shops and look, is 5 ply ok? Or am i looking for a certain number? Thanks bro!

Typical layered birch is anywhere from 11-13+. Dunno if there's more but that's a safe range within. That 5 layer must be a joke. Sounds like for housing lumber, i.e sheathing, siding, and such.

Yeah its 3/4 inch but they are big layers...which made me think its just junk inbetween with a layer of birtch on the outside...don't know if that outside layer being thick since its only 5 layers for 3/4 compared to 11+ layers for 3/4 is better...but i too heard the more the better....how does birtch cut? Does ut have issues splintering using a regular circular saw? How about when you use a router on it?

There isn't any difference in plywood aside from layers and vaneer. Birch, poplar, oak, etc are all the same minus the outer plys

I've used nothing but poplar from HD and had only 1 issue. I cut a sheet and it had a MASSIVE void. I took he sheet back and they gave me another one. My truck did a 155 with a box that was all single layer 5 ply poplar with a doubled up baffle. Right now my 4th order, which is 30 cubes, has 1 sheet of 11 ply birch and I'll never use it again. I'll stick to the 5-7 ply that everyone calls junk from now on

I was thinking the same thing. And having 5 layers at 3/4 rather than 11 layers at 3/4 means that the 5 layer birtch has an actual thicker layer of birtch on its outer layer. Nice to know, thank you!

Toledo Plywood - Shop

this is my local place where i get wood, you should be able to find prices similar, most of the time they sell 1" birch vc 4x8s for 29.99, currently 39.99 but it beats the hell out of home depot and is thicker than what they offer

No the outer layer is just a vaneer, which is usually only 1/16" or even 1/32". It's literally just a sliver of wood to make it look different for people who only plan on staining it
