Default Sealed enclosure Questions/problems?

I bought 2 TC 1000's 8"s from Spy a few months ago and just got around to building a enclosure. I decided to go with a sealed setup since I am pretty limited on room. The box is a 28x10x10" box, roughly 1.1 cf before dispalcement, which seemed okay since the recommended size was .3-.7 sealed.

Problem: So I finish the box and hook it up to the [email protected] ohm. The first thing I noticed is there sounds to be air leak between the basket and box. the second thing I noticed is they look like they are beating but like zero output, the midbass is over powering the subs.

Question: Is the design of the box okay or is this causing my problem and will an air leak effect the sound of a sealed enclosure this much? or do I have more problems than just a crappy box design

The only picture I have of the box right now, tye has more on his camera maybe he will be a sweetheart and upload them for me :

I will probably end up going ported and will most likely invert the subs cause it is a real pain getting the holes just right to clear the basket but still have wood to screw into.

weather seal between sub and box, make sure your subs are not out of phase, it wont hit hard if it is leaking and seal boxes use half the power as ported and dont hit as hard.

Air leaks will kill sealed boxes.
