Default Decided On Enclosure--Where To Get Plexi

I have decided on my enclosure, it will be a type of horn enclosure and due to its complicated internals I'm thinking of making the top panel of plexi to show it off.

The enclosure will not be started till snow gets gone so right now I'm just getting the plans prepared and my material list together and need to know where to get great prices on plexi for the top panel.

Also how does plexi's density and resistance to resonance compare to mdf so I can determine the thickness I will need.

Plexi is weaker than MDF, so you'll need thicker to keep the strength up.

That being said, it's extremely expensive, just so you know. My 12" x 12" x 3/4" panel was like $150 shipped or something crazy like that. It is extremely nice though, and definitely no joke. When I called the company (can't remember the name) they said if I would've bought more towards a whole sheet, the price would've went down, since it's less odd pieces that they have to sit on and try to sell.

If you're buying a big, standard size and cutting it yourself, check out mcmaster.com (McMaster-Carr). They're a great site, but not flexible on sizing and such. Just google it, and I'm sure you'll find the place I did. I'll look for my receipt when I get home from work today and post a link if I can find it...

I don't know were you are getting your plexiglass prices but you can get 3x that amount for a 1/3 of the price on ebay.

As for plexiglass being weaker then MDF, I completely disagree. 3/4" Plexiglass is every bit as strong as 3/4" MDF.

Maybe I got screwed on pricing, but I didn't have any way to cut it at the time, that's why it cost more.

And look at material properties, you'll see that Plexi (acrylic) is weaker than MDF...

Most places on eBay will cut to size for a small charge and guarantee it accurate to +/- 1/16".

Looks like good prices, what I was seeing was around $200 for the size I would need.
