Default How do Kerf Ports.......

Ok my question is:

On kerf ports doesn't it change the tuning of the port since at the end of the port it gets larger?

How do you account for the change in mouth opening when designing your boxes?

I know when using a standard round flared port it's different than a plain old straight port.

Is there a formula someone can clue me in on to account for this "flare"?

i have heard to just add an inch to the length of the port to account for the flair, just like aeros.

You can only consider 1/2 of the flair length as usable in figuring you port length.

Example...

You need a port length of 15" and you are using a 3.5" radius kerf at one end.

15+(3.5/2)=16.75"of port length.

This means if you start measuring from the beginning of the kerf you port needs to be 16.75" long.

Make sense?

Yup makes sense......

So if I went with a 4" kerf it would be 15+2 = 17....

What about a dual kerf such as on a horn, would it be as simple as adding the full kerf dimmension?

Example 4" kerf on 15" port:

4"+15"=19"

Or does this change the calcs?

No the math would stay the same even for a double kerfed port.

Stay the same as in your example:

15+(3.5/2)=16.75 ?

Even though the kerf area doubles?
