Buddy at work has an '03 Tahoe and is going to start a new system soon. He'll likely do 6 Kicker CVR 10s, or 4 CVX 10s(maybe the Solo Classics, but probably not). Gonna be going sealed, but he wants to try to keep some cargo space as he does use it from time to time.
Here's a few different ideas we've come up with for them and the pros and cons I've thought of for them, please add any ideas or pros or cons you can think of for them.
Down firing false floor in the back
Subs are totally protected
He will still have a large cargo floor which will be pretty solid
The box itself will be easy to make
Not very unique
All subs in 1 box means it needs to be built super tough and strong
The box may be uncomfortably tall (as an aside, how much space is needed for down firing? I've heard they need the diameter of the sub from a surface like a port, but almost all of the down firing boxes I've worked with have lacked this by a longshot, as well as a lot of normal boxes. Is it something where it just reduces performance of the subs not having enough distance?)
2 Side boxes along the factory rear panels (basically covering the factory sub area and those little plastic consoles)
Unique and stylish
Leaves the center alone for cargo and long cargo is no problem
The design would bring the subs up and angle them keeping them relatively safe.
only 3 subs per box so the pressures inside the box would be less and it won't have to be as heavily built
Would be pretty tall
Would be pretty obvious its there
Larger objects that are big in 2 dimensions might not fit, doesn't leave much width
By covering the rear A/C stuff it may cause issues
We talked about a wall, but the visibility aspect is a no go, as well as the inability to carry anything long at all. I'd like to hear some of your inputs. He's going for loud, but not competition SPL loud, just really loud semi-SQ. He listens to a lot of punk, so honestly it's going to be over the top bass no matter what, I think a lot of this project is gonna be showing what we can do at our shop basically, might help close some big money sales. That and he's got a distinct lack of tunes right now, so that needs fixed too. If it matters he's gonna be running a 2750RMS @2ohm Kicker amp, and some kinda relatively powerful 4ch I've forgotten, though he might need to add more vocal amps to keep up with the huge sub amp. So let's hear your crazy but still practical ideas
