Default My design for 2 18's, why are the port calcs so different??

Im looking to build a box for my 2 18's. Subs up port back slotted across the bottom.

INTERNALLY my box design is 22.125" height, 36.5" width, 35" depth.

Which gives me 16.357 cubes.

My port is designed to be 6" tall and 36.5" wide inside and 26" deep, which displaces 3.63 cubes. (using box bottom and sides as 3 of the port walls)

So im left with 12.72, my subs wont displace anything as they will be invert mounted, then after some dowel bracing Im estimating Ill be at almost bang on 12 cubes net for the pair

Now what Im a little stuck on is if I punch those number in 12volt.com and carstereo.coms calculator I get much different numbers. Im loolking for 36hz and I think my port @ 26" deep gives me that.

Carstereo.coms calculator seems off though, if you punch my numbers in and select the "slot port yes" option it says to make my port 6" long, but if you only change it to slot port no, it goes to 24"... but my box technically is a slot port so I dont know what to think here

Anyone have any opinions??

I plan to make a port plug to turn the port into something like 24" X 6" which would turn it to high twenties tune.

Im thinking of building this tomorrow if I can get some confirmation on my numbers!!

Thanks!!!

my box calc is coming up with a 34hz tune for your design.

what subs and amps are you using? because that port is kinda big, almost 18sqin of port per cuft. if your running alot of power you may wanna shrink the port down a little.

They are going to be HDC3 18's with PSI alum recones. Havent decided on power yet but most likely 2 AP 3ks

Just a daily driver will never see a meter, just need to play music reliably

the port is a little on the big side for the higher tune, which is what I may end up using, as I think the Aq's even though they are being reconed may still like the high tune, but Ill also make a port plug to tune it to high twenties just for shits n giggles.

Whatever one sounds better, I'll keep it that way

I was thinking you might be using AQ's given the port size. if i were you i would keep the same port size, but cut it down to 18" long. this will bring your tuning up to 36hz and will increase your net volume to 13.44cuft giving you 16.29sqin of port per cuft. since your not going after numbers i wouldnt go too big on the port area with the amount of power you will be running.

the dowel will likely not take up more than .4cuft

i would do 5.75" height X 36.5" width X 21.5 deep

[email protected] w/210sqin... 16.5sqin/cuft.... should be great daily

if you want to utilize a port plug u could make the plug 10" X 5.75" (152sqin remaining) and it would drop tuning to 30.5hz if u want to really slam lows or demo more air movement
