Default single cab truck / bucket seats

have currently =
pair of older jbl 10's in down fire positon.
3" between subs and truck floor - wich is painted bedliner - no carpet
round pvc ports facing up and at the cab wall - tuned at 33hz

problem -
the box is not musical - and not efficent for the position of people inside teh truck to be smacked in the face with bass.

the pair of 10s will couple with the truck nicely - and vibrate the seats pretty good on some bass songs like dj billy e - and I can definately feel my stomach vibrate - but thats only on the low stuff - normal rap songs just dont feel so punchy or bassy anymore with this setup.

maby its my low tuning thats killing it for me.
somehow I was expecting more

if I was to re design the box - how would you face the subs to be more efficent to the pasangers sitting inside the truck - instead of trying to couple the subs to the cab floor like they are currently doing.

ill try an snap a acurate pic of what I got goin on tomorrow - box dimensions I have avalable to work with.

yes I have thought about doing a blow thru - it just cant happen in this truck. its not nice enough. and I use it to haul crap - so I use the bed

what is the low pass on the amp set at?

i would say subs firing forward and port up that worked the best in my ext s-dime.

being close to the back wall is really dropping that 33Hz tuning lower than u think. could be reason for only nailing the lowz and hardly hitting the low pass freqs.

does it get any better windows down?
I would fire ports under seat to the front, and subs forward into seat back

amp is an old rockford punch 200a1 mono / full range / lpf amp
there is a lpf knob on it goes from 300 down to 20 ish I think.
I messed with it - and turning it down from 300 cuts out the upper bass.

not shure if that amp has built in sub frequency cut off at low hz non ajustable or not.

this is from when I was test fitting the system. single cab = no room

After looking at the build log I see a few issues. First you need way more port area than you have. Right now you are choking the subs which is causing them to not be as loud as you expected. Also when you build the new box build it with either mdf or birch as it resonates a lot better than that ply.

Since you don't want the subs or ports firing up to take away from the in your face feeling I would stick with the down firing of the subs but have external ports facing the passenger wall behind the seat.

How much airspace does that box have?

edit: just saw where you said the box is approx. 1.65 cubes net which is a little on the small side for two 10s and that little power. If you can get the box to 1.85-2 cubes after sub displacement then use a 4" external aero/pvc port 11" long I think you would be a lot happier with it.

here are todays pix of how its all in there.

and yes I believe you are correct - about box being a tad small for the subs on low power. I am trying to figure out what amp I can toss on this pair at 2 ohms and not imedietly burn up the coils with power lol I have a hifonics bx1605 that might give out 850 or so at 2 ohm they may take it with good settings on everything.

and I have also given alot of thought to my box design / re design
I might live with the current box for a spell and see if it grows on me - and how it reacts with more power to the subs - the one thing I was expecting was port noise - but I have none. maby I did a good job with the dremel tool rounding over the edges but we will see if the ports get noisy with more power / excursion from the subs... if so - I will definately re do that port - maby I can make a block off plate and pull out the 3 pvc pieces - plate the top - and add an 4" pvc pipe coming out the side like you had said 12" long to start off with - and I can cut it down to suit if it dont "feel / sound" right.
thanks for the idea about external port - I believe I can fit that nicely in the driver side with no issue at all hopefully.

on a side note - I totaly love the box as an arm rest.
its the perfect height and shape to be verry comfy when driving around.

Those subs should take that amp just fine esp in that small of a box. Taking those ports out and putting an external on the side will yield a huge difference.
