Default help with tuning...??

so i have my box all layed out, and have an ok start on it, but now i need help with the tuning...
I want to tune it to ~38-40HZ, and i got the box to be ~9.5 cubes before woofer and port disp. (yea, 9.5 cubes in my little trunk....) I want to use 2 4" diameter aeros for ports, and my sub is gonna be a 18" BTL.

i usually use this site for tuning:
http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31
but i dont know if it takes into account the port disp. and i dont know the woofer disp. so i was wondering if someoen on here had a program to help figure this out for me.

Bottom line, i ha 9.5 cubes before port and woofer, want the box tuned to 38-40HZ using 2 4" diameter aeros, and my sub is a 18" BTL

please help

NOTE: i am using the older BTL with the bigger motor, so it would take up more space...)

What vol are you trying to get after all displacement?

i am pretty open to almost anything aslong as it is 7.5 cubes or bigger after disp, and tuned to around 38-40HZ and uses 2 4" aeros

EDIT: also if the port length could be less than 13" that would be nice... if possible..??

I think you will have a problem using aeros in this application because your ports will be short like 3" long max. (which is probably too short for 4" aeros.)

Also, is that the tuning frequency you want? or is it the frequency reccomended by FI?

Do you have a subsonic filter on your amp?
(40hz highpass crossover for your subs)
(Most people call it a subsonic filter but 30hz to 40hz is not subsonic)

You could tune it quite a bit lower and your ports will get longer. What are the dimensions of your box?

I just want a box tuned to hit some decent numbers, i couldnt find what Fi reccomends for the older BTLs
as far as the amp goes, i will go check (it is a GP3000D)
and dimensions of my box, is kinda crazy. cuz i built it to get the most room out of my trunk, so it is made up of 3 different sections.
(the inside dimensions of the three sections are:
38x11x14" (3.39 cubes)
20x22x18" (4.65 cubes)
12x21x11" (1.6 cubes)
and i rounded down to 9 cubes becasue of the braceing)

Screw it dude.
Run it sealed and drop the power of an atomic bomb on it. You put this much effort in, seal the crap out of it and try it.
You will lose low end by porting it that high.
If you don't have anything hindering it, sealed should knock you socks off.
(hindering; being too close to a surface in the vehicle. eg: touching the trunk lid)

You should try it sealed before you port it.
That way you will know the benefits or draw backs of the porting you do.

But Fi reccomends not to port it... and wouldnt 9 cubes be a little much for a sealed box? lol

but i do see what you mean by not being able to use the 4" aeros
but i was considering maybe just doing 4 4" aeros at ~7.5" long each (someone double check that please )

also, generally speaking, doesnt ported usually put up the better numbers on the TL? this is gogin to be my first year competing, and i want to make a nic elittle impression

No it's not too large.
Trust me if you have any where near 9 cuft and don't port it you will hear and feel things people with ported boxes never get to experience..

You can tune it low and get close though. just remember to set your subsonic filter at the tuning frequency to start and then turn it down until the sub starts to loose control while playing a sinewave at the tuning frequency. (then turn it back up a little)

About the size 9 cu ft+;
Basically restricting sealed enclosure size is done either to keep its peak in the range you want or to keep the driver from over extending. [In a sealed box as the driver extends it has to combat the suction of the box(the air wants to stay the volume of the box)]

Is it ok for me to do even though Fi doesnt reccomend it? Also will it put up the number that a ported box would?
