Default Port area

I'm looking for really tight bass. I've got a pair of 9515's and I listen to 95% rock music. Would I be better off with a bigger box with more or less port area or a smaller box with more or less port area? I've got no real need for much below 30 or even 35hz. I want to feel the kick drum through my chest, not looking for meter loud.

Using WinISD, it shows sealed has a much smoother roll off and has a a better FR for rock than the ported enclosure it recommends. Plus the ported box will be HUGE! I would consider asking someone to design you a box if you want to go ported.

DD's sealed? Na. Designing isn't the issue. I just don't have the time to build 4 test boxes. I only get about 5-7 days a month to work on it. Plus there's suspension work to be done. And size of the enclosure isn't much of an issue. I have an '06 trailblazer ext and after taking out the 3rd row seating I have about 26 ft^3 internal below the window line.

LOL. I didn't know which 9515 sub you were referring to. I just assumed MTX; they make a 9515. Now I know why you think sealed is stupid.

Some people model and blueprint sub boxes for money.

BTW, I thought this was funny:

"We recommend to allow at least several weeks of playing time to break in DD Woofers, full break in may take many months. DO NOT play subwoofers at max amplifier power in the first couple of days, give the suspensions a chance to loosen up. As the suspension breaks in, the subs will play lower and louder.

After you give the woofers a chance to break in (you'll know when this happens because the woofers will be playing lower and louder) you can start to look at port changes to alter the sound to your personal taste and your vehicles acoustic loading conditions."

Yea I kinda figured you thought I was talking bout mtx. But DD makes THE 9515.

Xander, is that for 8 cubes or I am leaning somewhere in the 3.75-4.75 each range. So yer sayin 17.5" per ft^3? that's kinda what I was leaning towards.

And on the chance I go with aeros cause I like the way they look, 3 6" on 8 cubes sound about right?

^Hm? Id go smaller to stray away from the boom and nasty peak around tuning. IMO 7 is too much. Would be pretty boomy and power handling would go whack.
The usual tuning of 38 should be fine, and just place/orient it in the vehicle so you get the most mid-gain. Say the 50-60hz area.

Edit - Nvm. A pair of subs.. Was going to suggest 3 a piece my self, 3.5 should be good to help get rid of some of the tuning peak and boom.

Yea. A pair. Theyll probably be separate chambered though. Makes it a little better braced that way. I'd like to try my hand at kerfing. Any tips on how to do that?
