Yeah thats what im using this time around. Ill hopefully get work done (as I have been pretty lazy the past few evenings) and be able to post some pix. Some things I do like about it are:

It cuts well,
doesnt seem to split out or splinter
verrry light (specially compared to MDF)
cost, I paid 35.00 for 3/4, but it is still at least 10.00 cheaper than the birch veneer that was 7 ply and 23/32ish maybe. Arauco Ply was a full 3/4 inch, 9ply I believe and pretty much void free.

EDIT: In light of recent posts I may have the thickness mixed up. The birch may be 3/4 and the Arauco may be the 23/32.

The jury is still out on the final verdict though, as im still in the build process.

just my 2 cents

Tim

I used Arauco from Lowe's on my last box. It was 23/32 and 7 ply IIRC. I was just looking at the stuff they had there yesterday and they had the Arauco next to the "Birch" stuff. The Birch was about $7 more per sheet (it was $44 or 45 vs. 37 for the Arauco) and looked nicer on the faces, but I could see some voids in the plies. The Arauco I used seemed to have very few voids.

I'm probably going to build a new box here pretty soon and was kind of considering the same thing. I'm only using 1 sheet so I don't really care about the $7 difference. Just wondering, if buying from Lowe's, is the Birch ply going to be any better than the Arauco? I guess I'm happy with my Arauco box, so maybe I should stick with that. Hmm...

If there's not a huge difference between birch and the arauco id rather use birch. What's the best ply and best place to get birch.

The thing is, the birch ply they sell at Lowes and Home Depot isn't the "good" stuff (from what I've read on here). Good quality birch is quite a bit more expensive.
