Default SPL box... Slot port? Port Tube? Kerf?

What are the advantages to each? Will I notice a big difference out of any of the 3? The straight slot port would be the easiest to make. Unfortunately I won't be able to compete (NY... no comps up here), but I'm just curious if i will see a big improvement between any of them.

Sorry to get off topic, but where's Ulster Park?

Check out TeamNorthEastSPL, it's a SPL league dominately based in NY but there are shows throughout the New England region and parts of Canada. I'm sure there is some sort of show close by.

It's 100 miles north of the city. About 50 from albany. All of those are at least 2 1/2 hours from me

Its for two DD1508s. I'm thinking two 4" or one 6". I just don't have anywhere around here to get one. I would need to order them. Would 4" PVC be so bad to use? The only problem is that I wouldn't have a flare.

Just use a good slot port. At that point, placement and vehicle will making the biggest determining factor IMO.

The thing with aero ports is the ability to cut down the port without having to really redo the entire box as in a slot port.

so how important in the flaring? I always hear people saying not having a flare will cause port noise. I just haven't ever heard port noise, or at least don't think I have. PVC would be so much easier, but i don't wanna half ass it and have it sound horrible.

Or would I just be better off with a slot port? I want to do an aero just because I never have, but the slot would be much easier.

I prefer a good slot with flared ends personally. Also if it L's inside put a 45* in the corner of the L and make the port match it as well as rounding the port edge on the inside. Also try to keep a reasonable amount of port area to cut down on port noise, some subs will work better with ALOT of port, some with less... the t/s parameters and research will give you a good idea on port area, but 12-18 is usually a good range for a daily setup. Also get a program like BassBoxPro6, or WinISD it allows you to design then plot the box on a graph to see how it will respond and gives you a rough idea of box performance. A peaky graph = peaky box, a nice smooth graph = smooth sound throughout. I also like to keep a close eye on F3 and keep it as low as possible.

Like said earlier TEST TEST TEST. Sub/port orientation, amount of room, vehicles peak, etc. all has alot to do with final sound.
