Default Need some advice

I am looking at putting a pair of DC Lvl5 12s in my car and I know that DC recommends 1.5 cubic ft per 12. Now comes the tricky part, I have a design in mind that would allow for 3.0 cubic ft total before displacement. I know that the 12s take up .2 cubes each so that would leave me with 2.6 total cubes. The good news is, I believe I have a way of running an external port so as to not take up any more displacement. So the question becomes, will the 12s be able to operate at potential out of 1.3 cubes a piece as opposed to 1.5? Any help would be appreciated

If it is "bad", how bout the ol' Polyfill trick? I remember seeing a great breakdown on here somewhere about how much is ideal per cubic foot and what you can expect it to "gain" you in enclosure volume.

To be honest I have never ran any polyfill in any of my boxes, so I am not how it works for sure. I will look it into it though, thanks for the advice

1.3 should be OK. It may be a bit small but given the lvl5 has such a HUGE motor, Im guessing it is very low Q - normally meaning small box.
Even if you end up with some low end rolloff, your cabin will pick it up just fine.

Only way to tell is to give it a shot! And let us know what you find.

Yea thats kind of what I was thinking too. I had read on one of the other forums where a guy was in the same type of situation, like 1.5 cubes before port and displacement, and he was getting some mixed reviews. I was hoping by running an external port, the extra box space would be enough to get them to their potential lol. The only big problem is that this is going into a newer Trans Am and so the air space is TIGHT, meaning I really only have one way of building the box without modifying the cabin (which I don't want to do), so if it doesn't work you guys will probably see some Lvl 5 12s for trade lmao!

I haven't quite nailed it down. My thought is to run an external slot port, essientially it would look like a type of snorkel, a lot like an external aero port. My only conern is I don't know if the physics is the same since I would be adding an extra "boxed" section to the outer portion of the sub box. Like I said, it's an idea that I'm not sure on. The other idea is to run an external aero port through one of the cargo trim pannels, but I haven't done the measuring for that yet.
