Default Response graph question

Well as you can tell I am new here. I was in to car audio ~13 yrs ago and am just getting back in to it but I am struggling with a ported box tuning issue. I really have minimal ported experience as in the "old days" we all ran sealed b/c most ported that I had heard at that time were tuned super high and I wanted smoother low end.
I am trying to read a BBP response graph and the box is already built and I am VERY happy with the low end but the upper bass is almost zero.
I believe this problem can be solved by adding more/better components up front or a small sub under passenger side dash? Am I right?
the other question is could I have seen this on the response graph? I seemed to hit my predicted low end but the upper has zero impact? When I look at the graph the upper bass looks flat but what I hear doesn't seem to correspond with what I see
Copy of graph below...
2 Clarion SW1051 in 2.5 cubes w/ 4" port 8" long

Well I played around with port length and found a shorter port raised my tuning but gave me the upper bass which was totally lacking. I guess my question really is can you predict this from reading graphs? I gave up some extreme low end for now until I have more $ to upgrade the rest of the system. I guess I expected too much from my cheapo Clarions....
Was this due to designing box below free air resonance of the speaker?
Any opinions
Thx

The peak in the lower end may give you the impression of a lack of upper end extension. Now adding a set of components that will play down to 60/80hz will give you the lacking upper end back.

Advantage of sealed, smoother response when in the right box.

Thats what I thought. I have always built boxes just using manufacturer recomended or someone elses design. When I simulated this box I didn't really believe the resulting output would match the response curve. Well it did so I was pleased but I am trying to understand the theory behind the loss of upper end. I am viewing it as a give and take type thing, like if I give low end extreme gain I have to get that gain from somewhere, and in this case it was upper end. Am I thinking about this correctly?
Components with stronger low end are on my list of upgrades. Hopefully soon...

That makes sense, the other option is adjusting/adding an eq.

I wasn't sure if the EQ would work because on my HU the bass control centers at 50hz which I really didn't do anything (i run it flat) and there is a loudness at 100hz which would have been great but it also boosts treble which wasn't desired. I have a half din spot in my dash available, maybe I should look into EQ. I'm just not sure this would help, I am sure my best bet is upgrading to strong 6.5's in my doors first.

Come up with a budget, I can help you out, and if you have any interest in Rainbow's I have a set available.
