I have four (4) Kicker Solobaric S15-4 from 1999 or so. They are round, with the black and red poly cones. Three of them work fine; beat up, but still servicable. The other has had a 6V battery stored on its cone for a number of years. The suspension is collapsed in that sub and the VC hangs almost all the way into the motor.
I love these subs, the small box they play in, and the fact that I already have them. I want to use them on a pair of Zed Audio Hifonics Zeus (Gen VIII) that Mr. Mantz is restoring now. These subs come with a single 4 ohm coil and were designed to play in small sealed enclosures. They accomplished this by having a very massive cone, high excursion, and a relatively loose suspension.
My question is this: Would it be possible to recone these subs, first and foremost. If so, could the original intent of the subs (heavy cone loose suspension) be incorporated into the recone solution. I feel like Im asking too much, but would a longer/stouter coil be of use?
I plan to run these in a 4th order enclosure of a Crown Vic, vented into the cabin.
